Hi there,

HSBC let me have 20k for that, however, originally my loan was refused due credit rating. I was lucky enough to have a good relationshipo with the bank. If you already have a loan with them, i suggest taking the "if you dont give me this i cant possibly finish the job and therefore pay my main loan off." Worked for me, however, to be honest, I dont think its at all easy to squeeze a bank for a tr loan. Is this through gecat?

HSBC loan

Hi guys,
This is my first post. I am currently studying a law degree as a back up to my main career choice as a pilot. However I am concerned about whether on top of a student loan the HSBC would grace me with the full loan for training at say OAT, any body know what the chances are?
Thanks

You dont need a loan when you get in Easyjet, you are just bounded for your type rating (5 years ?) as far as I know

It depends what way you enter Easy. If you go in via GECAT as a newbie, you pay, but then they put you on full salary (90% for first six months but thats something they do for every1 i think).

Via CTC, your tr's kinda sponsored isnt it? Someone might wanna correct me there. Then Easy put you on reduced salary for a period of time.
With the Oxford/uni/hsbc thing. There are plenty of graduates at oxford in that situation. You'll prob be able to get it, however, thats if theres sufficient equity in a house you have access to! Contrary to common myth the loan is secured, normally by means of a garuntoor (ive never been able to spell that!). Also with hsbc, things are more negotiable than you may at first think. Remember, with them, you are a bloody good customer, you're taking a massive loan payinga lot of interest with which there isnt a penny of risk for them because it is secured. As long as you have sufficient security, dont take no for an answer from them!

RE HSBC loan#

Thanks, the only problem is that i come from a very poor back ground. therefore I have no equity in which to back up the loan . However Easyjet sounds like a great Idea, its just would they take me on etc etc. i have a good education and funnily enough this was one of the first questions asked by the HSBC when I apporached them. I am absolutely determind that unless I end up in a box in the ground I will make it. However I just dont know what my options are with finance and this I fear is the main barrier, if you can suggest anything I would be most greatful.

Ah man. Its this sort of thing that really winds me up. Why th do you have to have money, just to do the job you want!!! Consider modular and working while you do it? I come from a poor background also, however, I was lucky enough that my parents had paid most of their mortgage off and used it to back me. Also, most pre oxford guys dont understand the risk. Most get a job, but not all do, and the correlation isnt proportional to how well you did, purely luck on the day of a sim check. To pay back the hsbc loan you need a fair size salary, so you need a good back up job. Any good at selling things? I'll take it upon myself today to think of any other ideas for you because i cant stand the way our industry is "restricted" to those that are capable oflaying their hands on an awful lot of cash. Best of luck!

Speak later...

Why not try and get a job where you don.t pay for the training? God forbid, but why not work for a TP operator get some experience then apply for the big shiny jet. Worked for me although my jet is only small (Barbie). The market is supposed to be good at the moment.

Sadly, finance is the main barrier to wannabe's both young and old(er) trying to break into the world of aviation - well piloting at least.

I feel your pain mate, I'm in the same boat!

Essentially you are applying for a bank loan and if you do have a poor credit rating you do run the risk of being refused just like anyone else in the same position.

However, HSBC do know about the TRSS scheme and it is their money they are lending to you in the knowledge that you are guaranteed a job with easyJet on sucessful completion of the rating.

I'm no guru when it comes to how bank's work, but it could work in your favour despite a poor credit rating as you are a fairly safe bet for them having gone through the selection.

I would agree with what you say. Besides I'm sure everbody who is going through the TRSS process does not have an excellent credit history (myself included) and lets face it the HSBC make a fortune out of it and that's what the banks are all about!!!

Why not try to get a mortgage for nice big expensive house (providing you can handle the repayments) then sell up when the market is good and buy nice run down old house . Thats what i've done with refurbishing a few on the way and i'm just waiting to sell now . Its freed up bout 30 grand then i'm doing the modular route whilst still working to pay off the beast of a mortgage.

Also if you put your initial sum of money from the sale into a HSBC account they'll jump at a chance to give you the loan . They love that "you scratch my back and i'll rape you of all your assests if it fails" kinda approach
