Job Opportunities
Dear All,
Having recently looked into the airline employment market, there appears to be no short fall of jobs. There has, I believe, been concerns that the downturn the industry has resulted in serious recruitment freezes. This is just simply not the case, airlines are constantly taking people on and new blood as well, owing the the relative cost savings. Perhaps it would be fair to say that the airlines have just become more fussy with who they take on. From my knowledge airlines seem to pick the integrated student from either Oxford or BAE.
It may even be plausible that the reason why no job offers have come to many not in this boat, is due to candidates not meeting the standards,

Well, you explain to me why i have about 20 rejection letters for this month then? If you know where the jobs are please PM me, I'd love to know!
I didn't go intergrated at oxford basically because i couldn't afford it, daddy wouldn't pay!! boo hoo!
Besides i didn't want to pay 52000 to go to a school where the first time pass rate for an IR was (at the time) 47.5%, didn't seem that logical.
The airlines only like oats because everything is in one place, all your ground school grades and flying grades therefore its easier for them to pick and choose who they want, as they can't be ar**d to sift through the piles of cv's from modular students!!

Check the date on the front the Flight International your reading because its clearly about 10years old.
Do me a favour Colin, go to Oxford and spend your 80k on their airline preperation course. By the way when I go to the Balpa conference in October I'll be sure to put your name down for the 2005 event.

Have you considered the fact that there actually might be a fair few jobs around, and your own training route and personality/ skill profile might be letting you down??

you speak about standards, would you, please, specify what you mean by standard?
if a 2000h pilot does not meet the standard, a fresh Oxford pilot will certainly not meet the standard neither!as they are sufficient pilots around looking for a flying job, so why are they looking at the Oxford guys?.

Jeez Guys, this is an obvious wind up.
ColinM just left the bait and really didnīt have to wait too long for a lot of bites.
Of course going to Oxford/Bristol/Jerez is not going to guarantee a job and I would guess not be seen as a training advantage by most employers - and Iīm actually in Jerez! Right now we have a percentage of grads getting interviews and some even jobs! They are the lucky ones.

Wind up or not the fact remains. Several airlines have recruited in the last year, and not just type rated pilots. Yes they can be more fussy now, the ball is in their court. Just a few that I know of who have taken on pilots (some including low hours and ex FIs)

I go along with what Pilot Pete says.

It is clear that both Jerez and Oxford, to name but two, have their contacts on the inside as well. Impressing the FTO can be important to obtain that interview.
Things are on the move, and people are moving up the food chain.
