TriStar500.net Blog: Barq Aviation - redelivery of TriStars?

In the a.m. Article is also mentioned that the 1011īs have never been to Peru since the re-Registration ...

Anyone know what's happening at Bruntingthorpe with the ex RAF l1011s ?

mark1484 18th Dec 2015 18:46

Were they not bought by a private company with the idea of operating them on behalf of various western air forces? I seem to remember talk about them in early 2015, but seems to of gone quiet since.

Apart from the Orbital L1011 are there any others active?

Saudi?

Sands?

Barq?

Tristar Preservation?

Saudi? No
Sands? No
Barq? See previous posts
Tristar Preservation? I believe this is still at Victorville being prepared for ferry to Kansas City. Whether it remains 'active' after that, I don't know.

Great airplane!

But, from what I've heard, very expensive and labor intense to maintain.

bcgallacher 23rd Dec 2015 11:46

Wannabe 777 - you are not wrong about being labour intensive I maintained Tristar and 747 together for more than 20 years. I needed about 30% more manpower on Tristars than 747. It was a weird mix of advanced and primitive technology. A lovely aeroplane to fly in,loved by its pilots but I found it a pain in the arse to keep flying.

News of the

L1011-100 c/n 1064 was registered on 31Dec2015 to Tristar History and Preservation Inc as N910TE.
This is the ex-Operation Blessings Flying Hospital P4-MED that has been parked at Tuscon AZ for some time.
Whether it is for spare parts or going to be ferried to Kansas City, only time will tell.

I think it would need a lot of time and money spent on it to get her back to even ferry flight standards.

Amadis of Gaul 7th Jan 2016 14:45

I had a question about the one that's sitting at Wheeler. Is that the same airplane that was flown up there amid much fanfare only to be disassembled (as it appears to be)?

NO - according to FR24 an aircraft using the Mode S code of 06C004 landed at Abuja. That code was probably once assigned to HR-AVN, but if you watch the replay it is actually B737 TL-TSM that is using the code and lands at Abuja.

Dear God. Has 411A come back from the grave?
You know when I saw the thread title I had similar immediate thoughts :)

Has there been any news on the Tristar Preservation L1011s?

Kansas City nonprofit acquires former Flying Hospital jumbo jet | The Kansas City Star

JW411 25th May 2016 17:22

I've just had a look on Google Earth and it seems that 411a's beloved Tripe is still decaying gracefully on the ramp at La Ceiba. In many ways it would be nice to turn it into a shrine for all of us that remember the good old days where pilots actually flew aeroplanes, captains were captains, CRM had not been invented and a place where the young could remember such wonderful uncompromising red necks such as 411a.

It will never happen of course but he was a great old boy and wonderful at winding up the youngsters!

2Bad2Sad 26th May 2016 04:17

i was contacted possibly 4-5 years ago to move it out of there.
Seems some Arab back then owns this and is well known for not paying.
After so many years in that humidity would be expensive to fly it out.
Engine oil/filter changes all rigging, flight controls lubed etc, to include gear swings, list goes on.
Better to just cut it up, but if there was a way to do this would be nice to see this flying again. ,
Not cost effective, but wish it was.

mark1484 29th May 2016 15:19

I wonder who pays the parking bill with these Tristar's just sitting there?

Strange that the flying hospital has been chosen to be made flyable again, sounds like one heck of a job.
