Belfast????
Engineer, Hi
: Did you manage to contact Barry in Brisbane? I haven't heard for some time how ex-GHLFT is going out there, any info?
Also I'm still intrigued as to who you are!

Hirsute, Hello
Yes, if that was the 250,000lbs TOW one!!! Good job RM let me get on with the take-off, about 10kts after V2 as I recollect before she would unstick! We insisted on stress pads to weigh the freight after that one!
For those who knew the Belfast that was a 10 wet take-off at 30degs C, we were lucky to make it and I never wished to repeat the experience!

Belfast
Somewhat lax I know but I've only just cottoned on to this Belfast thread - and very interesting it is too. I can guess the identities of some of the contributors even.
I flew the Belfast for 7 years as a flt engineer in the AirForce and then managed to give it a glancing blow when working with Heavylift. The item mentioning tyre bursts brought back some memories of a particular landing in Altus (Oklahoma) Somehow we managed to burst ALL tyres on landing. This was a C5 base and fortunately the last C5 had landed otherwise we would have been bulldozed off the runway. Probglem was getting jacks under the bogie beams to lift it up.
Frantic calls for help brought a new set of wheels into the local civilian airport (name escapes me but I think it was someones name) and we eventually left after a 3-4 day delay. Many stories like that but not for now.
How's the CRM going Mike?
And good evening to you Admiral

MJ, HI
I've heard that she is staying in PIK until it's time to take the NZ Ams Cup boat back to NZ. Makes sense as PIK is the designated maintanence base for her and it must have saved $'s and $'s bringing her as far as Valencia on charter.
Have had e-talks with many others on the subject of the Queen, JM who was a QFI (?) on HMFC's Belfasts remembers checking out Bob Reynolds as the original Chief Pilot of HLA................what a cowboy Bob was!
On my first training flight, straight of Buccs, he asked me if I thought I could barrell-roll her.......Paddy T was the FE and I remember his face when I said I would try it.
Don't forget that I had never flown anything bigger than a Buccaneer....and had little or no idea of civvy rules and regs. No comments on that, please!
We got to over 90 degs when I started to run out of aileron and dished her out before the nose got too low....Paddy was rather pale but Bob just sat there totally unfazed.
I could spend hours on the subject of Bob R and the Belfast in HLA's early days, all on GBEPE, the original pre-production model, she weighed 2 or 3 tons more than the others.
I think David D is in on the chats, hope all goes well, David.

I noted a report that states she arrived in Cairns this morning 0742 local. The report also suggests that Cairns is now her home base due lower costs and also as it is closer to her main destinations.
