BA WORLD CARGO B757Fs
Whats happening?
Anyone got news on the latest news of BAWC project of using DHL B757Fs on various routes ex LHR "20 times per week"?
I was aware BAWC shipping a lot of freight thru DHL network and the nightly B757F & A300F ex-LHR but what exactly is new here?
Is it a BA specific flight?
Will they fly under BA call signs.
Will we see the ex-BA757s (now B757F's) flying under Speedbird callsigns again but operated by DHL?

Where did you hear this, it is news to me and I have several connnections in WCC. At the present we have a job filling up the pax a/c with cargo as the rates are not only competitive but almost suicidal.
BA do work with Atlas using 2 747-400F but I cannot see that they would be hiring in DHL to do 757 work. Bear in mind much of the inter - europe that a 757 would do is now road freight or trainned to the destination. I will ask around.

Hi HZ. Fully aware of B744F program of GSS.
This was in AirCargo publications and "Cargo Facts" newsbulletin issued on Friday. I somehow feel this is "old news" as the co-operation with DHL has been there for sometime but articles read as if they are taking their own aircraft, i.e for bespoke use.
Nothing to stop them selling to GSAs etc to fill up remaining capacity.

Well I suppose you should go see an eye doctor
BA are basically chartering DHL 757SF (yes, they are all former BA aeroplanes) for intra-European freight hauling. It is fixed schedule flights every week, and quite a few of them to boot.
It may be BA are struggeling filing up belly capacity, but you can offer quite a different product on real freighters carrying 125/88 inch ULDs .... Get the picture?

Well once our chaps tell BALPHA they will be looking to crew them as they take exception to others doing any flying for them. Why has this cargo first not been hailed then in the BA weekly rag.

We did all that once before and made a pigs ear of it. However that does not exclude us from doing the same thing again. The many rumours that abound have leaned toward BA riding itself of its LHR / LGW cargocentres. BA already have a 51% holding in Dunwoody who have taken over BA World cargo at BHX, GLA and MAN.

I'd venture the proposition that the chances of BA pilots crewing DHL aeroplanes are somewhere between zero and fcuk all. It is hardly as if DHL is taking any jobs away from BA is it? Rather BAWC saw an oppertunity and siezed it. Since BA don't operate short/medium range freighters, they chartered them in. BAWC and DHL stand to make a profit from this business, and now you advocate jeopardizing it because the aeroplanes are not flown by Nigels? Jeeezzzz ....... As Neil hinted at, if BA had a fleet of freighters then you would have a case. They don't, and neither do you.
The thing is, BA needs freighters. DHL does not need a, comparatively, minor company like BA. It's a nice little business that'll keep the aeroplanes busy at off-peak hours, and generate a profit, but that's about it.

Face facts:
British Airways is a CUSTOMER of DHL Air UK, in as much as that they are using DHL to provide cargo capacity flying.
DHL are a BIGGER company than BA in total, end of story. What's more they are profitable. DHL will exist long after any BAWC contract may end.
To suggest that a GSS type scenario may exist just is a load of nonsense. DHL air (contrary to Nigel belief) was set up to provide haulage for predominantly DHL (Deutsche Post) cargo ops. The BAWC contract is a small cog in a BIG wheel.....
Don't blow smoke up our ar5es please as DHL aircrew with your spoilt BALPA/SCOPE/Spoilt antics.....
Bring your own FO's if you think you will get a command in DHL as a BA pilot. You will need them, because all DHL pilots would be on strike..... so, go smell the coffee please.

To put a scale on it, the BAWC contract will probably form less than 5% of DHK's flying. That is not to say that we do not value BA as a customer and we endevour to provide them with the same 99%+ on time departures that we provide to DHL worldwide and our other customers. However, subchartering aircraft from specialist companies is a normal part of the freight market. I think your barking up the wrong tree if you think BA pilots will be taking sabbaticals at DHK.
Besides I cant see them putting up with 9 on 5 off. (actually I can't see us putting up with 9 and 5 but thats another story.)

Just a minor correction. BAWC is a costumer of DHL Express, not DHL Air UK. The BA charters (which is what they are, no more and no less) will be undertaken both by EAT and DHK. DHK is one of a number of airlines owned by DHL, it is not an entity engaged in chartering out spare capacity. In fact, DHK does not to my knowledge have a sales department at all. They are just there to drive their share of the 75s, nothing else, despite what certain individuals over at DHK might think ....
Now if any department should claim ownership for the contract, it would be Aviation Commercial Group, based in BRU, but that's a technicality.
Sick,
Look at it this way. An airline is short of capacity, and asks BA if they would like to charter them some aeroplanes. Let's call the costumer "Short Of Metal Airlines". What you are proposing is that BA would happily turn over their shiny aeroplanes to "Short Of Metal Airlines" because their pilot union would take offence at having Nigels at the helm? I think not .....

Still stuck on the 'costumer' post .... maybe so, but I preferred black and gold!
Couldn't care less whats behind the door, or who it belongs to. as long as it doesn't move, or smoke!!
DHK is an ACMI provider to whoever. As is EAT, Swiftair, etc. etc. BA is an ACMI provider to its customers, be it 'billy bunters', BAWC wishes, or whatever. Seems to me we are all service providers................ whats the beef?
The pies been eaten, small slice for others, suppose you want the plate too? Just try......
