The timing of the news of the new aircraft is uncanny, the same day we find out about Emerald losing all of their mail contracts. Royal Mail is a big contract for Emerald, It's like them saying "we've lost the mail, but it's not going to stop us expanding"

Cool

Fred Shed - so what's wrong with the ATR42? That's a much more common aircraft (loads more type-rated pilots), with a choice of contractor for cargo conversion (Aeronavali in Venice and SOGERMA in Bordeaux), whereas for the ATP it's Westair Sweden or Westair Sweden - and it comes with a growth option to the 72 series... Plus a proper glass cockpit.

So it is all down to £££££ or does Emerald know something we don't?

Cheers

That's a genuine company statement, but as we all know a lot can happen by next July.
As for the ATR well it is all down to money I fear.
The PO made up about 30% of the contracts we do but there are other things in the pipeline. I do hope someone on high has got the sums right and there is some form of plan to it all.
There is a lot of money to be made filling in for tech aircraft at short notice which is what the old Streamline was good at. Lets all be optimistic and look to the future.

Fred Shed,

What company statement is this? Obviously employees south of CVT aren't worthy of this information, maybe they think they've already closed the LTN base! Probably why I still haven't received a roster for this coming week, roll on the surprises tomorrow.

'It's time to play the music, It's time to light the lights, It's time to get things started on the Emerald show tonight.'

Hey Smellster,
My roster turned up on Sat. Hand written and ooh just remembered I have to call to say we got it.
Brian should have had a copy of the email sent. Our notice is just a faxed copy from sunny LPL.
With all this doom and gloom, another FO has just started at CVT.
Perhaps an end to our 12-13 hour day/nights? nah............

ATP Freight Doors

There is an option to Westair, see the following press release issued in June 2003

BAE SYSTEMS AND ROMAERO AGREE ATP LARGE FREIGHT DOOR PROGRAMME
17 June 2003

BAE SYSTEMS Regional Aircraft and Romaero commercial aerostructures manufacturer, have agreed a programme under which romaero will build 10 Large Freight Door (LFD) installation kits for the ATP regional turboprop freighter, in anticipation of an installation programme being planned by Regional Aircraft over the next two years.

Romaero has also been contracted by Regional Aircraft to carry out repairs on a number of ATPs that were damaged by freak hailstorms when in storage at Zaragossa, Spain.

It is likely that once these repairs have completed, some of these will have E-Class freight interiors fitted along with the Large Freight Doors at Romaero's Baneasa, near Bucharest. The first aircraft will be ferried to Baneasa at the end of June and completed with freight interior and Large Freight Door as early as the first quarter of 2004.

The E-Class interiors will be those designed by British European Aviation Services in a joint programme with Regional Aircraft.

It is anticipated that some of the Large Freight Door modules that have been manufactured by Romaero will be offered to other ATP customers who may elect to have their door fitted at other centers of their choice.

Romaero has been a partner to BAE SYSTEMS for many years, notably on the ROMBAC BAC One-Eleven licence production programme in the late 1970s and throughout the 1980s. Among the BAC One-Elevens produced were a number with freight doors fitted. Romaero also continues to be the main production site the Britten-Norman Islander utility transport aircraft, hundreds of which have built over several decades. It also manufactures rear fuselage for the Gulfstream G200 business jet.

In assessing Romaero's suitability for the repair task, manufacture of the LFDs, and likely installation of the freight interiors and doors, BAE SYSTEMS Regional Aircraft carried out an extensive technical audit of Romaero's facilities and processes.

John Williamson, Vice President Technical Operations and Business Support of Regional Aircraft commented: "Romaero passed our stringent audit with flying colours. We are impressed with their capabilities and quality procedures. The manufacture of the Large Freight Doors and the plan for installation will be very cost-effective meaning that freight airlines will receive a product that is priced to the needs of the market. We hope that this current partnership agreement can be extended and widened over time."

The time scale would seem to fit into Emerald's plan.

Angel

I stand corrected re. the ATP cargo door conversion - however, this new program only exists on paper so far, while ATRs get delivered new with a bulk cargo door as standard. Good to see though that the ATP is belatedly getting a deserved second life as a freighter.

Cheers

"Smellster Buddy"
If you keep working all your off days and come in at short notice without complaining, don't claim any expenses and pay for your own hotels and taxis then this time next year you might be in with a slight chance of being on the ATP short list. "Happy Days - Happy Days"

Hang on, LPL sunny???

As for the ATP's, surely someone has some new contracts up their sleeve to pay for these and offset the loss of the Mail?

Well, hopefully..

I preferred your unedited post - gave me a right good laugh. My other half often relates similar stories and there I was thinking it was typical male exaggeration.

Question ATP's

Was there any particular reason why ATP earned the less than appealing nickname of "Another Technical Problem"?
Any particular problems that it has that still occur or any problems that where fixed?

Cheers

I've brought your concerns Re the transport problem at Coventry to the attention of the company and they have assured me that the bicycle is on order with a further 3 being phased in over the next 12 months.

These are the standard 'e' class bicycles but the company has an option on a further 5 with the shopping basket conversion.

So, will the conversion mean that our flight bags can be put in ULD's or will they still have to be hand loaded (or forked haha like us) by a team of loadies? Has the contract been awarded? Will the new conversions mean that we can compete with the flash multi geared derailleur push bikes that other operators are using? Although having a quiet shufti around sunny Coventry I think the Penny Farthing is the height of push bike technology there.

Does this mean that MOB has finally agreed to pay more than ten bob and a pickled egg for his a/c?

Has he finally seen the light and realised that the way to keep an operation going is to buy some a/c that don't go tech at the slightest excuse and not rely on telling the ops staff every day they are c**p and any idiot can keep the schedules going?

You'll be trying to tell me next that he's hired enough crew to run a realistic roster without ops and/or crewing runing round and begging people to work their days off in exchange for "jam tomorrow".

As ever with EA, believe it when we see it!!!
