DB Transport

I recently contacted Amy Yung, a member of Island District Council, concerning difficulties in travelling between DB and the airport when the tunnel is closed. I pointed out that there is a flight safety issue regarding rest. She would like to meet with any airport workers on Saturday, 14 September at 2:30pm at the DB Pacific Coffee to follow up this issue.
Perhaps this is finally a way to make some progress on this issue. I have suggested that between 0130 and 0530 airport workers should either be able to take a taxi through the tunnel, or the company should run busses throughout the night, or the Hire Cars be allowed to pick up on the airport side of the tunnel overnight, or finally that we should at least be allowed to walk through the tunnel overnight.
If you cannot make it to the meeting on Saturday, then please email Amy at as the more support we show the better chance we have of getting a result. Please bear in mind that even if your normal shifts/flight times do not involve travel at this time, they may in a period of disruption-the very time you do not want to travel via central!
Even if you do not live in DB could members please post this message on individual in-house company bulletin boards and email lists to get maximum exposure before Saturday.
Regards

Have made this a 'sticky' at the top of the pile until after the meeting.

Following the meeting on Saturday Amy is very hopeful of making some progress with HKR (Hong Kong Resorts). Apparently the "legislation" does permit overnight access through the tunnel, but NOT by taxi. Also the ads for Sienna 2 in Saturdays press (both Chinese and English) state that 24 hour shuttle services are available to Tung Chung. (On phoning the sales telephone number, we were told that this was a "mistake")
Amy is hoping that HKR will agree to a one hourly bus service through Tung Chung although the fare may be higher than day time (Still much cheaper and more convenient than a taxi to central)
Amy is now dealing with HKR and the transport department, and she would like as many people as possible to email their support (or comments) to her at [email protected] as soon as possible ( preferably including your address) in order to strengthen her case. Please also ask Cabin crew and anyone else in DB who uses the airport, to support us.
thanks

I have made at least a half a dozen attempts to email her, all of which were returned as her mailbox is full. If you have her ear, perhaps a mention of this would clear up the problem...

I have heard today that HKR will now operate the Tung Chung bus every half hour from 0130 to 0500. Starting I believe on the 1st of October.

This should make life a bit easier.

DB transport say they have an application with Government for hourly service through the night. Say it is to Airport, and not to Tung Chung. (Maybe a language problem there?)
Hope to commence in October. (didn't say which year!)

I recieved the following from Amy on 24th September

"Dear All

Thank you for your support. After meeting some of you on 14 September, I contacted the Transport Department. I was given to understand that the tunnel was allowed to operate around the clock.

However, the bus company does not have shuttle buses during 1:30 am to 5:00 am. This is contrary to what was stated in HKR¡¦s advertisement.

I filed a complaint to the Consumer Council. The latter has written to HKR asking for explanation. During the last few days, some DB residents also wrote to SCMP. These have put some pressure on HKR. The latest information is that HKR is now applying to Transport Department for 4 trips to and 4 trips from the Airport via Tung Chung. So we better wait for further development before our signature campaign.

If you have further opinions/advice, please let me know.

Thanks & Regards

Thank you to everyone who wrote to Amy expressing support for the overnight DB bus. I am delighted that we got such a good result. Clearly the bus is only lightly utilised and we do not want to lose it.
I believe it will be helpful to Amy if we could all show support and reply to her email which I have copied below. Once again apologies to non DB residents.

Dear DB Residents

The DB02R airport bus service has been in operation 24-hour since 11 October. Please let me have your comments, particularly on the timing, cost and drop off location. I also want your views on the VIP Shuttle Service which require advance booking.

Thank you for your support.

Best regards
