HK License Conversion

Is it possible to get an overseas CPL converted to a Hong Kong license? What are the processes?

Yes it is, the process varies depending on your experience level, best contact the Hong Kong CAD directly for advice.

I don’t think you can do it as an individual. You have to be sponsored by a local airline, ask the CAD.

You can only get a licence conversion done whilst sponsored by an operator in Hong Kong.

The key point is what aircraft is on the “foreign” licence? The type one wishes to convert their licence, must be one which, that aircraft type exists on the HKCAD aircraft register (type certification).

if not, then you’ll need to do a type rating.

You can only convert a licence subject to the terms specified by the CAD (Conversion Terms). That’ll mean, groups exams etc.

contact: [email protected]

hope that helps

Does anyone know whether it's feasible to convert EASA or FAA CPL into HKCAD one if the type ratings and IR are expired?
Can't find a direct answer in CAD 54.

Going back nearly 2 decades, the BS I had to go through to covert Australian ATPL to HK was a good introduction to how they run things up there. Half the problem with passing exams was the poor English/grammar in them, that said we had "practice" exams that were almost word for word. I don't know about CPL but as previously mentioned I think you require an Airline to sponsor you for ATPL conversion and I don't know if anyone would hire a pilot with cpl only in HK. Certainly if you had to do it off your own bat it would be "interesting" to say the least

I would have thought the most interesting question would be the other way around, and given the politics, the Fragrant Harbour would be full of helpful tips on how to convert your Hong Kong ATPL to other licenses around the World.

Palm, go ask any of the HKE or HKA guys you know. If you are working for the company they have the question banks. Probably find it in their dms/comply.
