Final Offer
So, apparently the DFO has stated in his latest letter that the company's proposal represents a "Final Offer". Let's have a look at it, have a good laugh and then throw it back in their faces. The entire industry is significantly raising pay and benefits. Only CX seems to think that the trend is downward. We know what we are worth, and at the very least what it takes to realistically settle down in HK and enjoy a fulfilling career, support our families and save for retirement. We have invested several years already in CC and the TB. Let's not throw that all away now for a few shekels, and another poorly worded contract which allows the company to change anything they want, at anytime at their discretion. Remember, they also want to neuter the AOA and remove any ability to take action in the future. Either EVERYTHING outstanding gets fixed, or it's a big NO from me.

I tend to agree. Just another reason to wake up and realise that the only chance for any semblance of a normal and relatively stable career is to get established on the seniority list of a first world airline. CX is finished.

CX makes all the cash and Swires designed other "entities" to remove all that nasty profit.
HAS, CX Catering, Haeco, Haesl, Haeco Americas, Swire beverages, CPSL, Vogue Laundry etc. etc.
So if you're musing about that ever elusive Profit Sharing, don't hold your breath..

Standby for the next (same) Grand Pan to get the troublesome pilots under control. The HR director has already stated at the TC Bias training that the Pilots are to blame for all of this and lots of closed door meetings this last week. Agree with AP, this is their last chance to use "the sky is falling" excuse for cuts, so it is coming.
Time to get ducks in a row for the inevitable Swire ego driven dust up, same playbook and undoubtedly the same result. Hopefully the AOA are ready.

So, how does the AOA (us as you say) get a new, improved offer?
Call a strike vote, leave the date for action to commence open, watch forward bookings plummet and wait for a new, improved offer.

I could not agree more with your comment on a strike vote. I believe it will be overwhelming. As you say, leave the date open (convenient that the holidays are approaching) and the bookings will certainly begin to drastically tail off. We must not let the same soft, defeatist malaise that has led us to this sorry place happen again.
Fight for your careers, but more importantly, fight for your colleagues, friends and families. Who here isn't completely sick of seeing only the management benefit? Remember, every profit sharing bonus not paid, every 13th month not paid, every normal pay raise not paid is due to our management making those choices. They simply funnel the money saved into their own pockets. If we just for once stood strong together, we could re-establish the value of a Cathay Pacific pilot back where it rightfully belongs, at the top. We were there once for a reason, and it has mainly been our own failings that have led us to the bottom.
Time to turn that around, and that can only be done by the collective strength, commitment and mutual support of one another. Now is that time.

Management has always maintained that the pilots would never have the stones to go on strike and they would continue to push until we pushed back .In 99 they gave us a sign or be fired ultimatum and we folded like a pack of cards , But conditions were very different in those days , jobs were in short supply and there was a surplus of pilots . Today jobs are plentiful and there is a worldwide shortage of pilots , working at Cx isn’t that great any more, so the threat of loosing your job no longer holds the same concern.

It isn't the "AOA" that needs to be ready. It is each and every individual one of us that needs to be ready. We, for the first time in over 20 years have the leverage we need to attain a proper, legally binding and enforcable contract. The only thing really standing in our way....is us. CX will threaten, bully and manipulate in the coming weeks. It is beholden on each and every one of us to clear away the emotion, fear and doubt and recognise that we are ALL deserving of proper conditions of service. Again, the only thing standing in our way is ourselves. Do not be bullied or conned into signing away the true value of a career for a few pennies up front. We've stood together for a long while now, so another bit of time is needed to push us over the hump. CX will attempt to steal what little is left of your career hopes and dreams. Do NOT let them do that.
We all show up on a daily basis to move their 300 million dollar jets safely around the world, missing out on every birthday and holiday and reunion, forever away from our families and friends and countries, skipping countless nights of sleep and dealing with poor weather, tech issues, jetlag, circadian disruption and harmful background noise/radiation/contaminated air to name a few. We live under continuous scrutiny, with every word on the flightdeck recorded, every flight monitored, and always the underlying awareness that our families and livelihoods are only secure until the next line check, the next sim ride, the next medical, the next f@#-up.
Is it too much to ask that our employer simply abide by the contracts we signed with them? That they honour their part of the bargain? I don't know about you guys but I deeply resent being handed the bill for their hedging screwup, especially when I know full well that by end year they will be laughing their way to the bank, patting themselves on the back and awarding themselves huge bonuses, on to the next Swire assignment while we are left footing the bill.

If the offer binds the AOA from any future industrial action which is already limited by Hong Kong anyway..... Then why would any union member vote these limited powers away....? What will you do in the future when your COS is messed with?

RAT, another very good point. The ONLY way we can vote "yes" on an offer that binds us to "no futher industrial action" is IF it acceptably addresses ALL outstanding issues. Otherwise, we will be putting ourselves in a position where CX can abuse us at will, and we will legally be prevented from doing anything about it. Unless this agreement suitably addresses all issues, then it is a NO from me. We've come too far to give up and accept a flawed deal. The company has to be made to realise that we insist on all groups being treated properly. Nothing less will do.
