In future I'd suggest doing the M&S grocery shopping last minute, to arrive back at hotel just before scheduled pickup time, to avoid accidentally acknowledging an early departure.

Had to laugh:
and I honestly had a feel good moment after
landing, like the good old days!
Seriously? Good old days? Been in the company 2 minutes more like!

Heaven forbid he'd try to do an auto land off the CC approach to 13 because the IGS was out at KaiTak. A thankyou letter and cocktails at Mike Hardy's house would have been the go back then.

He must be a new Captain, never heard of him, and wouldn't know him from a bar of soap, even his photo has 3 bars, says it all, but oh boy has he promoted himself beyond what Donald Trump has done, and he's not short of blowing his own trumpet.

When all that happened is what we do regularly - manage the show, take off, land if you can, divert if you can't - it really is not that big of a deal.

Oh first #8 signal for him, I forgot!
Good old days. Lol !

And for those that say he's a great bloke and should go into training, perhaps the former is true.
I have no doubt from the few accolades he is a nice guy.
But for the latter aspect of going into training, get real! One also needs the skill of being intuitively and completely all over every aspect of not only the job, but be able to read the environment and people as well, clearly something Mr Autoland has failed to display. Hence 5 pages, and counting, of his peers who in the main, are being derogatory to his ill advised self agrandising literary masterpiece.

Gentlemen, now is not the time to turn on each other, blame, hammer or insult our own.

The issues currently facing us are, or soon will be, much bigger than this, trust me!

CX titanic has already hit the iceberg and you better find a life raft, jump and slide two at a time SoSan SoSan, or get ready for the ice cold waters.

It will take a miracle now to save everyone.

So what he took off and landed safely.

NO! No real aggression

But If you publish in nauseating detail what a hero you are for completing what is in effect a normal flight with a somewhat challenging landing , made a lot less challenging by handing it over to The autopilot

Then expect flack, from your peers .

Now if he had suffered a double engine failure and put the aircraft down perfectly, aka Sully . Then
By all means publish a book .

I agree oriental flyer, but how to about to just keep it to yourself like a gentleman.
What I was talking about are the words some people use around here, that shows some real aggression.
It's almost as people hate that guy now.

no 25 year housing
- cancelation of RPs
- C-scale
- no more temp bases
- no fleet allocation in seniority
- handwritten rosters

Did I forget anything?
Yes you get paid handsomely

And CX management have the arrogance to declare that we are "too expensive" and "overpaid". They make me vomit.

Humility is a virtue where I am from.

An old fashioned characteristic apparently.

I don't know LG well but I have flown with him and remember him as being a good guy - someone you could count on. I was certainly surprised to see his name attached to this 'diatribe', but as he has said, he was writing to a friend.

He didn't write to Crews News - he wrote to a mate. His only lack of judgement is in forwarding the entire message to the fleet office. The fleet office is obviously starved of any positive messages so pounced on his for publication.

Lesson learned - bar talk kept to the bar - minimalist and factual comms to management. "Aircraft pushed earlier than schedule - had extra fuel - landed right on limits".

What an utterly disgraceful thread, and how ironic that the title of Top Gun is being levelled at a Captain who took a thoughtful, measured approach to a potentially trying set of circumstances on arrival. who cares if it was to his friend or the flight crew at large, there are lessons to be learned and if it came to a choice between flying with him or all of you Top gun hero's who just say "stick on the gas, have a go and go somewhere else if it doesn't work" i know who I'd rather be with.
oh, and Curtain Rod...Ive been torn between agreeing with a lot of what you say whilst thinking you're a supercilious prig....i think I've decided.
shame on you all

Sorry Número Crunchero,
That message does not bear any semblance of a note written between friends.
It reads exactly as it was intended to be , a self promoting letter to the fleet office
I'm sure that in hindsight he would like to withdraw it , somehow I'm not so sure

Maybe so, AZHK, but if that's the case, let's discuss that. Or better still, give him a call if you take objection to it, as he offered.
Actually, I was on his side. I don't mind what he did at all. But having it available to the public, well, I would not have recommended it. And the posts that continue on here prove that point.

It's hard enough right now, so management would probably be in shock at willingness the group has to eat its own, publicly, if anonymously. I am certain all they are doing now, is looking for the wedge that can split the group more harshly, and more permanently.

We know for sure that they are not working diligently to put together a robust, comprehensive, and honest proposal back to the pilot group. That resembles real work too much.

Agreed azhkman but continuing to fracture this group is coming back, or will, to haunt them as we all see through it now. Eventually, everyone will catch on and hopefully we will become more united in our stance or our exodus. Imagine everyone that leaves recommends a few to tag along. This is where I see it going. No more of "what are doing about YOUR rosters" but "whom are you interviewing with". The network schism has shifted dramatically.

Yeah, I used the word schism in a sentence!

LG is a good guy and good pilot. I just wonder what would become of aviation if we are not permitted to share our experiences or learn from others? Shall we just learn from management's weakly missives? Lighten up.

I've gone and lightened up, and in anticipation of my additional post, I have gone and effed myself.

I'm afraid I have to disagree as to the good guy comment. There are a number of stories about the Grand Pubbah. A number of pilots have run afoul of said person and the fleet office.

Have you been to that office lately? It's a poster of everyone deserves a participation trophy! Yeaayy team you guys did great this year! I'm buying them all helmets this Christmas, the really special one, to the left of GL, gets a padded helmet! If they all keep banging their heads against the wall it will only get worse. I'm putting a "Special needs child on board" sticker on the door just below the handicap sticker. You walk in there and you see them eating paste or glue, theres pooh on the floor and Billies got his underwear on his head again. Or it's like an episode of Hogan's Heroes, there's chaos and weirdness but you can't help but laugh at these idiots.

Those newsletters are just something to behold. Share our experiences and learn from others? Isn't that what Pprune is for? It's like the National Enquirer, you know it's rubbish but you can't help but read it. Most of the stories are made up and thr Kardashians are at it, UHGAIN. With the state of affairs today, especially the last two years plus, who cares? This place is a disaster being run by Jim Henson's muppets. The Electric Mayhem is on tour.

You just can't take it seriously anymore.

Visionary , an excellent post

Interested Party.

As to LG being a good pilot , so are hundreds of others , but they don't publish what a hero they are, they just get on with the job .
As to him being a good guy , I cannot comment , but reverse the initials and then re read visionary' post
