The anti-discrimination ordinance still allows for expat terms if skills are not readily available in Hong Kong.
As I understand it, that's why they hired all SOs via the cadets program.
DEFO and DESO can still be offered different conditions, as the min requirements are higher, and locals don't have the experience.

RH just used the new ordinance to cut on expat conditions (and increase his bonus).

DEFOs were sent to ADL in the 2000s.

CAD exams are also sat in ADL on computer terminals these days.

Eyes,

The DEFOs 2007-2008 did their HK ATPL stuff in HK, not ADL.

Things must of changed as they used to send people to Adelaide for the performance, human factors, and air law lectures then back to Hong Kong to sit the written exams st CAD.

The system has changed over the years at one stage you had to do all of the British CAA international papers.

Well let's wait and see what indeed is actually offered.

I'm certainly not sold on the idea, just having a look at some options, trying to see all the angles. If they put something out and it's a decent package then perhaps I'll consider it further.

To put it into perspective I joined Rex a decade ago, after reading an almost endless amount of negative !!!! on this forum. I spent almost 5 years there and had a great time.

I'm still wondering, why are you considering coming to CX now and not 3 or 4 or 5 years ago??

ML the package they will offer is the one C scalers have right now, the only way it will get better is if no one takes up the DEFO offer they will have no choice but to improve the package

No one takes up the DEFO offer? Yeah, right.

Learn to speak Portuguese?

This "offer" is aimed squarely at HKE/HKA. CX aren't even trying to attract outside "talent" with this deal.

HKE/HKA drivers are watering at the mouth for an opportunity to jump ship. CX looks positively idyllic compared to what they're subjected to. They have HKG Licences. Some are already type rated (training will be minimal). There's a $20K a month increase for just crossing the bridge.

The number of total outsiders inducted into CX on this latest abomination of a contract will be minimal - it's not aimed at them.

There is no love lost between Hainan Group and CX/Swires and CX are itching at an opportunity to stick it to them.

They'll kill two birds with one stone: Rapid induction of new blood onto the 330/747 and stymie (or at least slow down) HKE/HKA's expansion. AT's problem becomes theirs.

What we desperately need in HKG is an effective SINGLE union of pilots (irrespective of employer, commercial or VIP) to deal with this threat. We should all be sitting around a single table with a unified strategy to tackle the bullies.

What do you mean when "locals don't have the experience"? For what?

KA hires DEFO's with possibly less than 100 hrs in an aircraft (total) and very possible ZERO solo time !!! They are MPL cadets....

Like I said earlier, every last one of the CX SO's should apply for the DEFO spots as, if KA can hire DEFO's with < 100hrs, every last one of the CX SO's is qualified as the precedent has been set by KA (100% owned and managed by CX) as well as the HK CAD would have signed off on the program.

Take this to the anti-discrimination board !!

...to assume our pilots would even consider applying.

They make 85k a month, and more provided they fly more than 50 hours. And provided they have more than 3000 hours jet time. And if they have more than 3000 jet hours provided they managed to get their logbooks approved by us. But that's besides the point.

They receive an annual bonus of 60k.

They don't need the 13th salary as they know working for us is a reward itself.

They don't need a yearly increase in salary for a few reasons: working for us is a reward itself, and the more time they spend in HK the more they adapt to the growing prices, as said - we hire smart guys only.

They don't need more than 28 days of annual leave. These guys loooove to fly. And they know it would be way above HK standard anyway.

They don't need any assisted travel, as they know they are already making too much money, and on top of that, wouldn't even go anywhere during annual leave but rather help in the office.

They don't need comprehensive medical insurance as we hire top notch individuals who care about their health so much that they don't need one.

They don't need school allowance as they are not interested in having children, but in aviation only. For those few that joined having children already, their children are smart enough to go to local schools.

They know Seniority is for sissies only, especially when it comes to upgrades. If they love their Company and perform, they will skip any weak guy ahead of them on Seniority.

There's plenty of where that came from, so think again Underpants before making such wild assumptions.

To my Bonus

Yep every SO with 100hrs+ should apply. It's your chance to experience the B748 as primary training aircraft, good luck.

Probably not.
I suspect that this DEFO drive is aimed at poaching FO's from Hong Kong Express and Hong Kong Airlines to allow a bit of wiggle room in CX's expansion plans.
TBF I don't think they're looking for anyone outside of HKG.

Absurd and pointless as they'll only attract the worst of HKA/HKE FO's.
Reminds me of a former CP saying the last DEFO intake was to attract "bitter and twisted QF pilots". God forbid if we put out a package trying to poach the best crew.

However, maybe it does get them around a legal issue that they have created.
After the Hong Kong immigration department wouldn't approve and issue Cx I-cadets with work visas, apparently Cx wrote to immigration claiming there are not enough suitable Hong Kong residents interested in Cx, and Cx no longer employed pilots through any other joining stream. As such, the immigration department issued unqualified foreigners work visas.
So foreign DEFO's now make the I-cadet scheme redundant. Unless, of course, all DEFO's currently hold a HK work visa.

anyone know whether they will be extending the direct entry FO to London base?
I sincerely hope not!!!

Whilst I hesitate to tar all "DEFO on a base" with the same brush, previous attempts at this have led to some "interesting" individuals joining - and that's me being very polite. It's caused more problems in the long run than it solved.

If you're interested in working for CX BaronBlue, why haven't you already applied in previous years?
