You'll only find out a couple of years down the road whether or not you've done the right thing.
However, unless you're financially independent or live in a country where the luxury of social welfare exists, you have not adhered to the cardinal rule in life which says you must first look after No. 1 - that is yourself. Because no one else will.
Anyway, a thread was recently started by Wizofoz which encouraged the great advocates of the ban on CX recruitment to come out and openly declare what kind of support they were going to extend to anyone who turned down a job at CX.
As you have now declared your hand, let's see the whether there will be anything other than hot air coming from the usual suspects.
Unions worldwide have been digging their own graves over the last two or so decades, and it will be no different in the airline industry.

I said no a while ago when they asked if I would take a job under the ban. No actual offer. I spoke to a guy yesterday who said yes and has been given a start date for mid July. Apparently a course of 20. Makes you wonder how effective the ban is. I'm also beginning to wonder if I did the right thing. Those of us respecting the ban are being passed by and missing a great career oppurtunity while the rest are getting jobs at Cathay. Dosnt seem right does it?
I must admit I feel IFALPA have got it wrong with this ban. I understand their support for the HKAOA but as a member of an IFALPA affiliated union they have an obligation to me as well. They are supposed to be looking after my interests as well. At the moment this IFALPA ban is doing my career harm. To make it worse it dosnt seem to be working if they can put together a course of 20 for July. So, as an IFALPA member I'm respecting an ineffective ban and all the others are passing me by. Also dosnt seem right. Not only have 49 guys been affected but this ban is affecting many others as well now.

Send all documentation you have confirming the job offer from cx, then your response to the aoa, then send the aoa your credit card bills, mortgage stubs, and ask them to keep you up to date on the actions they are taking to secure your employment with cx when the ban ends....take a deep breath and wait......let everybody who considers honoring the ban how you are progressing.....ask the folks who got a pay increment when they accepted the command vacancies created by the 49'ers, to share that increment with you.....you made a sacfifice at their request...are they willing to reciprocate?...doubt it.....and whatever however it turns out...consider it water under the bridge and get on with life.....

The object of having a local union and IFALPA - to having any union presence, actually - is to expand the power of the individual.
I have posted a suggestion elsewhere about the future of the AOA actions, but may I suggest that you take a hard look at your own benefits (past and present) achieved by a union's presence (or absence) and base your future decisions and thought processes on that.
In brief, you should justify your actions on whether you support the concept of a union or not.
If you do, then you can refuse the offered position with a clear conscience.
If you do not, then you have to decide for yourself whether you think your future employment chances will be affected by the label "scab" being attached to your name.
Personally, I think that the AOA is clinging to a poor position AND that allowing internal upgrades totally destroys their credibility (since they are themselves filling the vacant positions they are fignting against), but as long as the AOA Membership as a majority stand by that anomaly by emptying their own wallets that is their own business and their decisions should be respected.
Generally speaking, the strongest organisation is that where dissention and argument is thoroughly thrashed out privately in the meeting room and the individuals emerge with one voice regardless of personal conviction and remain silent about the differences of opinion.
I hope the AOA Executive and Membership can find a way to conclude this sad state of affsirs in an agreeable manner.
I hope that helps.

Hello everyone,
As a new user and as young french pilot, I request some help. I have finished my ATP formation in september and I'm looking for my first job but everyone know that it's a hard time presently,so if someone can bring some help to a new pilot with lots of motivation I will be very grateful.
For instance I have no type rating but I can have one in case of hiring.
For further questions you can consultate my web site and keep one's ear open.
Thanks for all.
