Richard Sorge;
Liam Gallagher;
I've read your reply to my Post 73 and I would like to compliment you on your fervour, your choice of words and a good all round augment. Unfortunately most of what you say is flawed and I think you will find that history will attest to this. It's obvious that Snowden has told the truth but for for reasons best known to yourself you refuse to accept this. Your " 15 minutes of fame, a book deal and ego before principle " is fanciful. Again history will descide. Your reference to the privilege of diplomatic airspace is laughable. Is it a privilege for the USA to overfly China, North Korea, Russia, the South China Sea ,the East Sea and anywhere else they please willy nilly with cameras churning to gather what they call " essential information " ?
Now about the 21. They are not my heroes as you imply, however I do applaud them for the courage if their convictions. They were driven by a different motivation from the one that drove Richard Sorge who I do consider a genuine espionage hero. Your Lens Owens was a fine man, their is no doubt about that. Keep your sword unsheathed as this lot is not over yet.
O.P.

He's a traitor and should be hung by his balls for all the damage he's done.
What....... you think Russia, China, North Korea etc don't spy on us??????
How damn naive are you?
Very damn convenient he's in Russia, you don't think the KGB won't be busting their little balls trying to get hold of his info to save them obtaining it themselves via their own eves dropping systems......
Get your head out of the sand, the US, ASIO, MI5 all do what they have to do to KEEP YOU SAFE. If you knew half of what goes on in the world your hair would go grey and fall out in 5 minutes flat.
Just be glad we have people out there on our side WATCHING LISTENING and ready to do THEIR jobs.
To quote a Few Good Men:--
Jessup: You can't handle the truth! Son, we live in a world that has walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with guns. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lieutenant Weinberg? I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for Santiago and you curse the Marines. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know, that Santiago's death, while tragic, probably saved lives. And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, saves lives! You don't want the truth, because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that wall. You need me on that wall. We use words like "honor", "code", "loyalty". We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it! I would rather you just said "thank you", and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a weapon, and stand a post. Either way, I don't give a damn what you think you are entitled to!

nitpicker, I take your point but your use of Nathan Jessup as an example of what goes on behind the scenes to protect our democratic rights is rather unfortunate.
As you well know, the next part of the scene has him admitting to breaking the law, i.e ordering an illegal disciplinary procedure to be carried out against one of his men. And when Jessup opined that he was 'doing his job' he was arrested. Furthermore, he wasn't arrested by some left-wing, lily-livered court of human rights, he was arrested by the Marines - his own people.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not defending Snowden - no-one should be above the law. He had legal means to express his concerns but chose not to follow that path.

Did Jessup really break the law? He did what he had to do, he didn't expect the Marine to die...just do his job.

I'll bet the Russians are trying everything they know to record the HDD of any computers Snowden has with him.

Re:-
Not expecting an answer to this - "Are we chaps?", but on the off chance...... as you so disdain the "Stupid Military Mind", how would you describe your own as; presumably, it is a more desirable alternative?
A little less attention to the effect of the stupid military mind might help you and your like thinkers get a grasp of the big pictire.

Eward Snowden for Nobel Peace Prize;
Today's ( Tuesday ) Hongkong TV news is reporting that a highly respected Swedish academic is suggesting Edward Snowden should be nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize. Sounds reasonable.
