Jetstar Hong Kong SCMP
Just saw Jetstar ad for drivers in today's South China Morning Post.
They're quoting 18 x320's by 2015 - Bigger than first thought?

Where training is required to gain an endorsement prior to being employed, the cost of gaining the endorsement (Airbus or Boeing) is borne by the applicant. Applicants will be offered the opportunity to enter into an Endorsement Agreement which will allow them to repay the cost incurred over a period of time.

WW certainly can't be classed as impetuous!
Great self control for so many years. 2 beers and I'm all over a keyboard, speeeling mistakes and all!
The T&C's will no doubt be so woeful that no self-respecting first world pilot will take them. So standby for Eastern Euro's, dodgy South American and possibly dubious credentialed Asians and curry munchers to make up the first intake in this latest race to the bottom for "How low can you go" terms and conditions.
Bets on how long from start operation to first 'incident' anyone?

When asked by some ex KA drivers how they intend to do it better, the reply from management was that "they will do a turn around in 25 minutes." Ok, so they call ready earlier, only to be told "Delay undetermined.." Bring it on low cost heroes! China will smash that business model pretty quick.
Blank stares followed when this was explained to them.

Too true.
....or when mainland pax refuse to disembark until receiving compensation for the delay or better still they open L2 while taxiing and storm the apron again refusing to budge until they receive compensation (for some reason??!). Try enforcing the closure of check-in 30 mins before departure whereby the ticket is therefore forfeited with the mainland crowd. In Oz, the US & UK (for example) pax will kick up a stink BUT they follow the rules. The Chinese mainland is another (unruly) beast entirely.

Their HK head of operations is ex KA - he will know that. I hope he has explained to his boss that a whole schedule based on 25 minute turnarounds in the PRC will mean half of their flights will have to be cancelled!

Lowkoon,
Excellent point.
Whilst they see their comparative advantage as the 25 min turnaround on a 180 seat aircraft, their competitor CX/KA turns a 300 seat aircraft around in one hour. Included in that 1 hour turnaround is the loading of Freight which is a Revenue Stream a LCC can only dream about (unless of course they own a Cargo Terminal and logistic's network based in HK)
Still, it's in CX/ Swire interest for the LCCs to give it try, for who will be selling them the Fuel, maintaining their aircraft, provisioning their aircraft, transporting their passengers to those "cost saving remote bays", none other than HAECO, Cathay Pacific Catering and HAS.
And should a LCC start to eat CX's lunch, CX will super discounted 30 tickets per flight on the LCC's competing route, thereby lowering the LCC's load factor to an unsustainable level. Who do think will run out cash first? I think Oasis lasted a year.

That would be just like their first applications for Cat 2/3 ops & Rnpar. The list of failures is long, even in a country where their parent company has a strong influence over the regulator.
They only know of one way to do things..... cheaply & half arsed.
