The Demise of Hong Kong Airlines
Dear Gentlemen,
Just ignore that fxxking Diablo Caliente. I am pretty sure he is a Singa Swine. Only Singa Swine enjoy telling people ' to get a life '! Thats the only complete ENGLISH sentence Singa Swine could muster
'Get a life!' Diablo Caliente and BUGGER OFF!!! You seem to have plenty of free time for the pointless diatribe

Why do you feel the need to advise people on who to ignore? I for one have enough street smarts to know who to ignore and who not, as Im sure all posters do. Maybe diablo is correct, are you replying under an alias? And before you call me a singa swine, let me give you some heads up! Never worked there either.

I see the boys and girls have been given a pay rise. 15,000HKD/month Capt and 10,000 Co's.
What I think is a bit rich is a 30,000USD training bond over 2 years for a command upgrade no matter how long you have been in the company.
With the amount of Capt's leaving maybe they think this will make people stay once upgraded.
Take the upgrade and piss off when your ready, don't think twice about it.
They have not chased anyone who has pissed off no matter how much they owed.
I hear a lot more about to leave once their gratuity is paid.

TriJetFlying and diablo_caliente
You both claim to have never worked in HKA or have had nothing to do with them, so why are you stick your noses into something you have no experience with or know nothing about?
Bunch of arrogant know-it alls should just leave us angry men be.....or are you just doing something to give your blistered hands a rest?
Get your hand off it guys and leave this post to those who actually know what they are talking about. I know diablo is used to sticking his things where there not supposed to be.....can't get enough of those lady boys at HKT huh? Sick F#ck.

I heard the guys finally got the pay rise at HKE/HKA
That’s great, now it is closer to what it was but still less than the 2006 package. Now they do not have travel tickets home and some other benefits they had back then. Based on this you will be earning less there in another 4 years from now.
So is there any inflation there? No Cost of living increases? You are all going backwards people.
From what my remaining mates there are saying the pay rise was welcome but a real kick in the guts. The management circulated rumors of the 15% gratuity coming back and this and that, and really strung the whole process along for more than 6 months, then just released a mediocre pay rise which is still less then 5 years ago, with less benefits.
My mate there also tells me the 2 companies need 160+ pilots for the A330, and people leaving and pilot turn over this year.
My questions are: Is the package now enough to keep you flying the 737 for the rest of your career? And how the is HKA and HKE going to employ that huge number of pilots when the middle east alone is taking probably the pick of the available wide body pilots on the market? The Middle East needs more than 800+ new pilots each year!!!
What makes HKA management think pilots will want to work there for the money offered, and the pathetic package?
No schooling.
No Housing.
No free flights home.
Basic Medical, no dental
Only 28 days holidays.
Provident fund that is 12% LESS than the middle east.
Disorganization.
Bad rostering.
Cheap overnight allowance.
Un-certain future.
Bonded for everything even if type rated.
No Minimum flight hour guarantee.
No loss of license insurance.
Poor training.
Corruption and intimidation tactic’s used.
Immature and childish management.
Conditions and allowances that are REDUCING.
And the list goes on.
160+ experienced pilots in 2010 on that package? I think not
160+ of the worst pilots with the lowest standard in the industry? Perhaps, but probably not. Not for the deal they are offering.
Get out like I did. Or don’t join at all. Best decision of my life.

As long as desperado's continue to join operations like this one the situation will only get worse. It's "Fools Gold" at the end of the day and I am sure the travelling public would be horrified if they were aware of the standard of pilot these operators attract (they never really ask questions until their arse is on fire).

Yes, we did managed a pay raise. The reason and effort involved I will not diverge, but are we satisfied? Of course not. But, it's a start.
I notice some here are wondering why HKA is still in business. Let me explain. How the company treat it's employees does not equal how it can sustain a profit (or losses). The company is pefectly willing to cut costs to the bones if it means it can squeeze out more profit (or balance the books). That is why HKA can still be running even as it treat it's employees poorly. They run a business to benefit the shareholders and the owners, not their employees, and certainly not the pilots. Is this a healthy way of managing a company long-term? Perhaps not, but the point is, poor treatment of employees does not equal a company going under...yet.
Now you may wonder about a little issue called safety and staff morale. Won't pilots having difficulties in distinguishing a taxiway from a runway impact on the long-term viability of HKA? Well, HKA is willing to dance close to the edge, but they know when to jump back in time. The question is will they jump back in time the next time?
I will use an absurd analogy. Suppose HKA management is a hijacker. He is pointing a gun to your head and ordering you to fly into some really ultra-nasty looking supercell CB. Why? Because it will get to the hijacker's destination in a quicker time. The turbulence is more then extreme and there is a chance it will destroy the aircraft. But the chance of surviving it is bigger, so you are forced to comply. Having arrived at the destination safely despite a few "bruises" on the plane, the hijacker then do it again in hope of repeating the time saving. The question is, will the hijacker be so lucky the next time?

Vertigo, Yeah, that load of crap is really scary in how it explains the HKA situation. You have no idea what depths HKA can get to, for that absurd analogy really does explain alot at HKA. Sigh....

Anger and Vitriol alone will not end HKA. What will end HKA are two things (which applies to any airline business):
1. Heavy losses leading to bankruptcy from lack of passengers, slots, high costs, wrong business strategies etc. Of course, HKA does have a rich sugar daddy in the form of Hainan.
2. Revoking of AOC.

After spending days reading this thread...all I could say is, it's a shame to see another airline going down in HK....probably the last thing any pilots would like to see, thumbs up for those who fly for them.......let's hope management could wake the hell up one day, so newbies like myself could get a real job!!

Since the revoke of AOC was mentioned, just wonder if anyone pay any attention to Viva's recent demise. The Macau CAA publicly said that they have revoked Viva's AOC because they were not being cooperative and blah blah blah. Does anyone know if HK's CAD has ever revoked an AOC? I don't think it has. For Oasis, I don't recall them taking any proactive action. Maybe they just let it die on its natural course. Please correct me if I am wrong.

BBQ, the CAD are not going to revoke the AOC of Eric the bedwetters own private transport to his girlfriend in Tainjin and hookers in Haikou, especially not when Eric is almost top of the corrupt crap pile that is the CAD
