Angry The Demise of HKA

Heard that operationally & administratively HKA will finally be taken over by HKE. HKE will then change its name to HKA. HX is not in a position to inject $, so Dr. Ho as a major share holder is taking over (he won't be putting in substantial $ either, thus the dismissals from HKA). Our beloved Singaporean team will pack their bags, finally. Too bad the fat cats from China will stay; and more will be coming.

April has nothing to do with this pal, although fools would miss the signs on the wall. The prelude commences with a massive lay-off in the first half of January. Rough times ahead for the aircrew.

Thumbs down

Well before we see HKA go. I would just like to say good luck to the all the HK staff and Expat staff who made the airline good.

AND

I hope the FAILED Singas are banished from the industry for ever. They were failed SIA JNR F/O's.

Most agree that the Singas make no good to the two airlines. Singas only create troubles (conflicts with the ex President, ex CEO, ex Ops Management, influenced the pilots who attempted takeoff on taxi-way on the statements, incomplete training records, harassments with office staff and cabin crew, bad relationship with the local authority....). They do want the Singas go some place else and leave them alone. Let the existing people to re-build the airlines.

Many people do not understand why HKA/E top people can bear with the badly reputted Singas. If they send them home and sack few local staff , they can save a large sum. HKSAR may give some recognition to HKA/E top people for not sacking so many local staff.

no doubt, the singas are useless but who brought them to the company, why.......... apparently, there are lots of internal problems which may not be easily unveiled. Running an airlines really needs professionals from many aspects not to mention the economy climate.

Retrenchments Upcoming

Looks like there will be massive retrenchments at HKA in the near future.

Best of luck to those remaining at HKA.

Always a risky move to work in that part of the world, HK, where your masters will not share your cultural background and concerns. Did you ever try working in a chinese laundry. Ask yourselves why the british were asked by the Swires to go out there in the first place 30 + years ago and take their experience in aviation with them... to address the non existant asian crm with the lure of silly salaries and nothing else. Ask yourselves why so many Aussies, [who had led such a laid back easy life in the former colony until Hawk finally busted their arses out and we arrived from the north to show them what a normal working day out of Mascot might comprise] ,have managed to spread such vitriol and hatred around the world with their hearts worn so proudly on their sleeves and that little list of names in the top pocket to keep the hatred going...forever if some have their way. Rule one, we are creatures and tribal with it, loyal to our upbringing and country, not to other cultures which we might find attractive for a while anyway. It all comes home to roost.
Mixed culture flying is unattractive in any form. Nor is it pretty to watch !

My old colleagues tell me the DFO is not out in the massive staff cut. Why? I keep silence for a long while. I think I ought to say something. I hope someone can act something. I reported to the airlines I was harassed by that old Singa in his office some months ago. It was so disgusting. I am so scared I cannot work after that. Why the disgraced old Singa still there? I agree the Singas do no good to the airlines, especially that old guy. He dirted the airlines. I am a victim. The airlines will be next.

Is the old guys you are talking about Cherry the same guys who cracked reverse in the air, pulled the speed brake in the climb, was quoted as to say his goal was to kill all Aussies and Kiwis and the guy who believes he looks a lot younger than he is who's biggest goal in life is making some top 100 list of sound production

If it is don't lose any sleep over it, he is a goose

As for the DFO, the only thing he cares about is protecting his own ass.

HKA Lays Off 55

Everyone saw this coming, from the SCMP.

Martin Wong
Jan 10, 2009

Hong Kong Airlines laid off 55 workers yesterday, citing a business restructuring rather than the financial situation as the reason.
The Hong Kong Confederation of Trade Unions said workers contacted it yesterday afternoon after about 50 of them received letters from the airline saying their jobs were being terminated with immediate effect.

The letters, which were issued by the company's human resources and administration division, did not state any reason for the 55 workers' dismissal.
Sung Chee-tak, organising secretary of the union, said that when workers asked the company if their positions had become redundant, it refused to comment. "Workers feel furious."
Last night a spokesman said the company had decided to focus on cargo flights, so some workers had to be laid off in the restructuring.
"Workers were compensated according to labour ordinances," the spokesman said.
In November, the company fired 40 employees and accused them of unsatisfactory performance, but it refused to supply evidence to back its claims.
The company later said the airline needed to cut down on manpower because business had dropped by 10 to 15 per cent with the economic downturn and because of a seasonal business low. It added at the time that it was difficult to say whether there would be further layoffs and that the company would make a decision depending on market conditions.

So, they are going to be focussing on cargo? How do you that with the much heralded coming passenger configuration A320s and A330s.

S*&t Lah! Didn't think of that!

Perhaps the Singas not singing the same song lah!

Death Of The Snakes

You Singa Snakes getting a bit desparate finding volunteers for your recruiting agency??

Wondering why no-one will join you?

Should be a good indicator to give up aviation, go home and get a job in a service station pouring gas, and then hopefully with your ignorance and stupidity, accidently blow yourselves up.......you don't know how happy that would make ALOT of people.

Those who post on this thread with foul words coming from foul mouth appear to be quite numerous and deserve to be let go.
Hong Kong people are not degrading themselves in this way.

I find this all quit interesting. I'm always amazed that pilots will travel far and wide to get a job, even with families. On one hand, If these pilots with tons of hours, why they don't have a job at their own country? I suspect that they can't get one or got laid off by their own country men, or for some unknown reason (know reasons) they did not get hired at their country's airlines. I also suspect many is there to build hours because in their own country they are not qualified to get hired.
I feel your pain of getting laid off or about to. I too work in the industry. I also understand furlough is a fact of life in the airline business. If a US airlines furlough pilots, it is mostly view as a business decision, but here it seems like a race issue. I also suspect if your own county hires mostly foreigners to fly their planes you will be up in arms. Some claim the HKA is being racist yet some of your posts making fun of how they speak is racist. Pot is calling the kettle black.
Just because you travel half way around the world with good faith to work, I don't think that guarantee you a job for life and upgrade as you please.
I've been with a major airlines here in the US for 19 years. I know my job is not guaranteed, with this economy anything can happen. My company currently has hundred of pilots furloughed.
Good luck to all and hope this economy turns around soon. Peace brother.

Hmmmm, I think your need to get your facts straight here sunshine - HKA has how many local Hong Kong pilots, maybe 4? I think you'll find your brethren from SE Asia are not considered locals.
