Post ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Is the minimum requirements of 1000 hours total time into CX just put in to keep guys like myself hoping that one day all the hard work will pay off from GA or is it a realistic figure which will stop your CV from being thrown in the bin as soon as it hits the desk. I am 20, 700 hours of instructing and charter in OZ with multi time and dream of one day flying the heavies.
Could it be possible that for guys like myself in 18 months time things globally will be settled enough to apply with just over a 1000 hours and have ever present age on our side.

Descend, not to be a killjoy, but the average hours of new hire s/o's has gone up to an average of about 3500 hours in the past few years. There are some new hire S/O's who have had past medium jet command time, with 8000+ hours, although these guys are in the minority. In days gone by, there were a few 1500 hour guys, but one would think those days are gone. But, always give it a try, no matter how many hours you have, you never know.

Descend Ready,

Alot of the guys come from Oz. Most have background similar to yours, very young around 23yrs old. I am sure you will have plenty of opportunity, the airline still does not have enough guys and despite parking aircraft, the long term prospect is still very good.
You might as well join your compatriates here.

Good Luck and see you in Cathay pacific soon

Ken

Sigma, in the last 6 months (as far back as I can remember) I have only flown with one S/O who fits the age profile you speak of. The majority (the other 17) have all been 30ish

mng, did you make it into dragonair?

been there, you are 300 hrs short of atpl, why not go for that instead?

ps. as you know, anyone can take the atpl written as long as you finish your cpl(faa), whether you have enough hours or not.

I was in Cathay City in Novemeber, a friend took me there, I was outside the recuitment office and saw AL et co.
I saw ads for the CEP in Nov 16 in scmp but I left on the 19th so I did not apply.
I will in the future, its just that I need to arrange to be in HK for a longer period of time.
To answer your query, JTR, been flicking through crew news and there alot of new joiners that are Aussies and fit that match.
Maybe its rostering.
Thanks
Ken

Sigma, take your word on it. I gave up reading "screw you'se" when I realised what a load of cr@p the first 3 pages were. (i.e. 2nd issue)

been there,

past requirements were 1000 hrs ICAO credited CPL or frozen ATPL, (ATPL ground tests done but w/o the 1500 hrs)

FAA does not recognize this frozen ATPL theory. Their computer ground exam is just an exam towards your ATPL. Unless you know someone that can squeeze you in, get your ATPL, much recommended.

Regards

Cool

Guys,

A friend of mine told me that CX will accept any ATPL from any country. However, Hong Kong Civil Aviation Department (CAD) has her own set of rules to qualify for HK ATPL. (All CX jets are HK registered except Lear 45 in Adelaide) e.g, if you are the CAA (UK) ATPL holder, you may be given some exemptions and have to sit for 3 papers to qualify for the HK ATPL and up to 10 papers if you are the FAA licence holder.

I was informed that the HK ATPL syllabus is quite similar to the CAA (UK). So better have a look what it is like.

Good Luck

If you come to HKG with a frozen ATPL the CAD will convert your commercial licence into a HKG one. Once you have the required hours to get your ATPL you will have to sit for the HKG ATPL tests which are identical to the UK.

Not sure, but I think they only started taking D/E S/O's with the opportunity to move up in CX around 1991.

"Not Sure" being my disclaimer
