Descend, not to be a killjoy, but the average hours of new hire s/o's has gone up to an average of about 3500 hours in the past few years. There are some new hire S/O's who have had past medium jet command time, with 8000+ hours, although these guys are in the minority. In days gone by, there were a few 1500 hour guys, but one would think those days are gone. But, always give it a try, no matter how many hours you have, you never know.
