FI(A) revalidation with IR privileges

I'm about to revalidate my EASA FI(A) certificate with IR privileges. I'm not meeting the 50hours (and 10hours IR) requirements this time and I need to take an AoC.

Is it possible the IR part of the AoC to be done in the FNPTII? I asked an FIE and he told me 'no'. Thnaks!

Sounds like a good answer. All you have to do is teach an instrument approach during the AoC.

FI(A) Revalidation hours

Anybody happen to know if any instructing hours on Microlight aeroplanes can count towards the overall 50 hours for revalidation of FI(A)?

I'm sure you know where to find this, right?
FCL.940.FI FI – Revalidation and renewal Regulation (EU) 2020/359
(a) Revalidation
(1) To revalidate an FI certificate, holders shall fulfil at least two out of the three following
requirements before the expiry date of the FI certificate:
(i) they have completed:
(A) in the case of an FI(A) and an FI(H), at least 50 hours of flight instruction in
the appropriate aircraft category as FIs, TRIs, CRIs, IRIs, MIs or examiners. If
the privileges to instruct for the IR are to be revalidated, at least 10 of those
hours shall be flight instruction for an IR and shall have been completed in
the period of 12 months immediately preceding the expiry date of the FI
certificate;
"The appropriate aircraft category" means SEP as far as I know, so not a microlight unless it is a type that can be flown under EASA CS-23 rules. Yet a while ago the rules were updated to allow Microlight aircraft hours to count for your recency requirements to revalidate your SEP, but whether this applies to instructing hours as well... that's a question that I cannot answer. Perhaps BEagle or Whopity knows?

I double checked with a senior CAA Flight Examiner about this recently, who stated as follows:

Instructional time on Microlights cannot be counted towards the 50 hours of flight instruction needed if an FI(A) wishes to revalidate his/her FI certificate by experience.

If anyone wishes to query my answer, he/she can e-mail [email protected] or telephone 0330 022 1972 - who will tell him/her exactly the same thing!

For his/her own Class Rating revalidation, PIC flight time on Annex 1(e) aircraft (i.e. Microlights) can be counted, but the hour of refresher flight training he/she must complete cannot be on Microlights. AMC1 FCL.140.A; FCL.740.A(b)(1)(ii) Recency and revalidation requirements refers.

No, it means a category appropriate to the certificate held. SEP would not be applicable to a TRI for example. Hours flown as a TRI on a MPA do count towards revalidation of a FI even if no instruction was given on a SEP.
Microlight hours don't count towards the 50 as stated.

Apologies, I should have completed the sentence... I meant to add 'in the situation this poster finds themselves in...' but I see that this part got left behind in my head.
