SEP Class rating in PORTUGAL
SEP Class rating in PORTUGAL
I'm looking for any recommendation on where to regain my EASA SEP class rating in Portugal - if at all possible a facility that would also have light SEP available for renting from time to time.
Any hints appreciated, cheers.

Not Portugal, but Fly-in-Spain at Jerez, just over the border are a decent bunch, and rent their C172s out to hour builders at the weekends. I did an FAA to EASA IR conversion there last month, and found them great people to train with.

Great, I’ll have a look at them. You're right, that's close enough for a couple of days to get it back in the license. Next challenge would be to find a little bird to fly in Portugal - if anybody’s renting out. Thank you.

Might be worth a chat with Gerry Breen at Lagos.

I've just received a quote for an SEP class rating renewal (3+Years), without any prior review of my flight experience, at 1700 Euros. This includes 4h theory, 4h flight training (aircraft type TBD), 1h examination flight. This is at an approved ATO in Portugal. Thoughts anyone? At first I thought this seemed like a crazy pricing, but I've got to admit that I've lost touch with the cost of this type of thing under EASA.
Other considerations of doing renewal “close” to “home”, as opposed to doing it in another country, is that you get the most current local rules and regs, tips on best practices etc. I’m also considering endeavouring into an FI rating and for future secondary/supplementary work, involvement with a local training provider may be beneficial, if for no other reasons, then to grow the nearby network of people.
Great to get some confirmation on this from others, thank you. Yes, you're right, I haven't flow SEP real world for prob a decade (but I've done my fair share (a lot!) on the computer simulators) and I've flown Caravans professionally (10y ago though). In current duty on biz jets (well as current as the Covid-19 allows!). I'm not anticipating a great deal of issues in returning to SEPs - and mostly, training is never a negative - I was just not expecting the syllabus as presented, but after researching and thinking a bit more about it, it's probably a reasonable plan and quotation. However, and even more importantly, the same training facility is apparently offering FI courses in the coming months - so I'd need to do the 5h SEP anyways to prior to doing the entry assessment. Let's see. Thanks for chipping in with the perspective - appreciate it.

I’ve contacted Fly-in-Spain as well yesterday and are awaiting their reply. I’ll post it here when I get it.

I personally ended up choosing an ATO that's closer to where I live, also considering gaining local knowledge while doing the training. The syllabus I'm doing is as previously stated 4h ground, 4h flight training and 1h exam. Cost price 1640.-. The flight training is on C152.
