Captains remarks

Getting sick of the remarks entered about ground handling by the captains and some members of the ops / crewing bunch. Should we stick up for it?

Some of these guys don't know the stightest about the ground side and their airlines often employess 'pretty' little boys and girls to represent them. Trouble is is that they suddenly disappear from the face of the word when trouble strikes, leaving the ground staff to the abuse both verbally and physically.

Just wish that they would treat staff with a little dignity and find out the meaning of the word 'Thanks'

well, that's a known downside of ops. generally, i have been regarded as a travel agent, which always booked the worst hotels (obviously, you have to know all hotel in the world, if you work in OPS...). and it's obviously my personal mistake if a stubborn customs officer annoys passengers, and if the handling is poor, catering was bad......

still, i enjoyed working in OPS. and some pilots didn't only say thanks, they sometimes even brought a bottle of wine to dispatch!

cheers

Aha

Some flight crew will always have a different idea of what constitutes "good handling", with regards to the Ops bods, most'll be speaking from experience if they criticise anything, as they've all worked for the handling agents in the past to get the experience for a job in Ops in the first place!

It has to be said, that a LOT of flt crews will call back to the handling agent after departure to thank them for " their help" a" a great turnround" etc - this is not at all uncommon. You're not the first, and certainly won't be the last to feel "unappreciated" by Ops, crew etc - it happens unfortunately! being in Ops, doesn't make any of us immune to some unreasonable criticism, or ok, some of it also reasonable!!

BugsBunny - spot on. I'm fed up as well! There's a certain UK charter airline that employs staff on the ground who always disappear when there's trouble. They have also developed an annoying habit of hanging about the stand pretending they know whats going on with the turn-round and generally getting in the way - very annoying.

Admittedly it doesn't happen very often but there are pilots who will recognise a fast turn-round and say so (Pegasus and Eurocypria spring to mind). On the other hand, one UK pilot radioed me recently before take-off and said, (quote):
"Congratulations on the worst turn-round I've ever had." There's no satisfying some pilots - he was off chocks ten minutes early!!

We Ops staff just can't win sometimes can we?
