Just heard from a friend at a different handling agent that his partner has been made redundant from swissport. Apparently the redundancies targeting higher level staff within all departments. Any know which other departments are directly affectd?

Re: Going Down Hill

I couldnt have said better myself. The writing was on the wall long time ago... PR was effectively fired for ( the poorest excuse for an Airline FLY(may)BE.. Because they are so demanding and dont know their A from their elbow. The managers of that airline dont want to even talk to the passengers in person. They hide behind ticket desk or in their office..They could give a rats tail about Customer Care.(Yes that still keeps passengers coming back for more). Swissport let go one of their best DM (UK) at least he knew how to answer a question and was always available to speak to passengers when problems arose. He invested loads of time and effort in that place and still got a royal kick up the butt.. Some people were wise to jump shortly after he left because if they can turn on one of the best so crudely what hope is left for the others.......So Swissport will go down once PR and ND gets moving........Because they actually care not only for their customers but for their Staff... Another very good employee comes to mind TD former trainer was technically pushed out for the likes of Crony JW.....I will comeback to finish later

Danger

so ND and PR will be the new saviours from what im reading here? ??you are forgetting they are businesmen whose sole motivation is to make money! banks are folding, businesses are closing, worldwide bad economic climate, credit crunch, lack of jobs, blah blah blah blah oh but im sure any "new handling agent" will come along to bhx and offer superior wages, free meal vouchers, more down time on shift, increased holiday allowances, employ more staff and any other perks associated with a blue chip company...
I DONT THINK SO !!!
BHX specific ,whether its swissport aviance servisair or a new handling agent you will find yourself being overworked and underpaid

lots more to follow so watch this space

Are there going to be many staff left soon? The latest rumours are that Aviance under cut Gate to get flybe, Monarch are likely to follow, PIA to move to Servisair, Air Malta likely to join them and possibly Swiss. If all comes true very sad times for the remaining staff

Shouldn't be waiting for this lot for very long. This lot are just what has been passed around this week, and they are after all just rumours albeit from a variety of usually reliable sources. Also waiting on the US decision which will hopefully be soon, quite fancy a trip to PHL

Don't even mention US. Its bad enough for us having to deal with the problems of all the other nationalities that come through BHX. And now we have to deal with the not so intelligent yanks!!

redundancies

They can't chop people in pax svcs or ramp for 2 reasons:
1. The summer schedule starts in March.
2. There aren't enuf staff as it is !!

OPS1978

If you have had 3 years sick in 7 years I would advise you dont take your redundancy. That is a terrible record and no other company would give you a job. Im actually quite suprised you are still employed at swissport. You either have a good lawyer or a good Union.

Redundancy

Ready Reckoner for calculating the number of weeks' pay due - BERR shows at age 30 with 7 years experience you are legally entitled to a maximum of 7 weeks pay (capped at a maximum of £350pw).

This equates to £2450 so £4k doesn't seem too bad.

Im assuming the remaining amount is made up of notice period which is 1 weeks notice for every years service.

OPS 1978, as it was written it is libel not slander. All the same it seems to have been started by the same HR person who reckoned I was the least qualified, but never let facts get in the way of a good story. It's no wonder Swissport are in such a mess if they can't even do simple sum right, I would think the person with the calculator hit the plus sign a few too many times.

There is always other jobs at BHX for you if things don't work out abroad

Your quite right OPS1978, I withdraw my last post, there appears to be a error on the numbers.

It was NOT 4 years Service and it was NOT 3 years Sick

But on a serious note you should listen to legalise, no man should jump for redundancy at your age, take a look at what is going on in the world, you will be out of work for some time if you don't.
