Exclamation CRM Courses For All?

Just a thought that came out from the 'Bloody Pilots trying to run ops' thread.

Someone suggested, tounge-in-cheek, sending an author of a particular post on a CRM course. I got to wondering what peoples opinon of this actually happening would be.

On one hand I don't think this would be such a bad idea. In todays industry, the responsibility of safe operation of aircraft, does not lay solely with the guys at the controls. JAA requirements on Accountable managers is a prime example of this.

So, would it be such a bad idea to extend the sphere of influence of CRM to encompass a wider range of flight operations staff.
It might also lead to a clearer and better working relationship between colleagues, that would make life happier and safer.

There again possibly not. Could just be a waste of time and resources. Waddya think?

Well for what it's worth, some of the Ops guys (and gals) need to attend and learn something about CRM. Learning how to deal with people in given situations is not that difficult, but alas, we will always find those who think they know best

Take messrs 4tuna and lalapanzi as an example. Always keen to slag off those they work with on here, but never face to face. Maybe they should attend a CRM course and learn more about peoples attitudes at work then maybe the workplace, ie Ops/Crewing/Despatch, would be a far better place to be

CRM may remove the 2-faced attitude some people have.

Basically speaking - I'm all for it

Question

JSR (off-blox) - if ever some-one needed to attend a CRM course it's you, long overdue.

Oh and for the record, a big thank you for naming the person & company, something I didn't feel the need to do. If by reading my posting on Management style you were able to identify the person you confirmed what I posted. Nice to see the truth being acknowledged. Call yourself a friend of Celtas - shame on you

Having been lucky enough to attend an EK CRM course, and benefitted greatly from it, I am very much infavour of the old "Cockpit Resource Management" being retitled "Crew Resource Management" as is now the norm..

I learned very valuable techniques on how to pass my opinions to pilot/collegue/manager who just happened to be making a wrong decision without starting a row over it.

Pity the same techniques doesn't work with ex-wives.

It also didn't save me from loosing it one day with a Senior Flight Attendant, who just happened to be providing some horizontal entertainment to a certain senior management, and being "asked to resign" as a result.

çe la vie

Whooaahh!!!

Company I work for runs a course for us mere earthbound mortals. Not called CRM but "Management Skills Series - People" it's basically the same deal. Very usefull, also in the week-ends when you try to make a score on a babe in the bar. It's the bodylanguage thing, dead giveaway every time !!

Put briefly, it is of benefit to all who deal with people. Call it CRM or whatever, it teaches you basic and advance inter-personal skills, and god knows us dispatchers often needs to "persude" flightcrew to perform the way "we" like them to.
