Think ive burnt my bridges eeek!!

Ive posted before about an interview i had with an airport (Servisair). For Dispatch.

Well the interview was really unprofessional to say the least, they couldnt tell me a salary or my working hours !! yes really they couldnt. Although i interviewed really wel and it went really well.

Well, its been 2 weeks today and i havent even had a note or phone call to acknowledge i even had the interview, let alone to let me know if i have the job or not. The problem i have is that i am worried about contacting them again, as the person who will / could be my boss got irrate with me for hassling them, (i called once in a month) dunno if that amounts to hassle.

So now im stuck just waiting for a letter or call that may never come......

Today I went over the interviewees head by calling the regional Manager whom i couldnt speak to but spoke to the station manager who was appalled at my treatment and was going to chase up why i havent been contacted at all.

Now im feeling this will turn personal and i will have zero chance of getting the job, anyone got any feedback or feelings or opinions on whether i should have done what i did , i dont feel ive followed the wrong path here, but people get all personal if they feel like youre going over their heads,,,,,eeeekk feedback PLEASE !!! AND i reallllly want the job

Could go either way really. Yes the person concerned could take it personal, or otherwise they might shift themselves to avoid any further a**e kicking.

But I have to ask, why the hell do you want to work for circusair? The pay approaches minimum, not the greatest culture in the world, and last I heard despatchers (note the spelling) are only on a 20 hour a week contract with anything else being overtime (paid at normal rate). And I have heard of "oh yes, you'll get 40 hours a week no problem" that then never happened. Beware, there are other handlers out there!

From everything you've said it doesn't sound like they've behaved very professionally, i'm not sure why you would still be so keen to work for them?

Why put all your eggs in one basket? I think you should cut your losses and start applying for other jobs, speculatively or otherwise! If you're keen then you're bound to find something somewhere!

Good luck

LOL Cessna ur post cheered me a lot !!!

I dont partiularly wanna work for Servisair, i just found out about Swissport which i understand are a bit more professional, they want my CV so maybe i should get on with it, yes the hours were what attracted me to Servisair first cuz i really would only like about 20-25 hrs a week, i have a child so thought it would be nice to see the kid occassionally !!

And yes they are wanting to pay me £5.30 an hour eewwww i know, but i really wanna do this job, i think i could give it a lot, and they would get a lot out of me.

Hey ho i spose i will have to wait and see if this person gets peed off for me persuing, or maybe if they are Professional enough they might see im actually someone who could give them quite a lot, if not determined LOL

Thanks for your input, any other despatcher employers besides Swissport or Servisair?

Depends where you want to work, don't know much about London airports, but there is Aviance as well, and then whatever local companies there might be at LHR or LGW. I have to say that I am not even associated with despatch, although my brother in law has been a despatcher for 10 years or so, and has worked from nearly all of them at MAN.

I do have to deal with the handling compaines with my job though, and having been at the airport for 8 years now, reputation goes a long way, that is why I can look at Circusair with a smile on my face. Incidentally, do you know they have either bought out, or been bought out twice in recent years? Hmm, stable firm that one. The pay is lousy, T&C are below par and although I appreciate you only wanting to do 20 or so hours there is a problem. You strike me as someone with a passion to do the job, and give it your all. If this is the case, go to a company that will like you for it, and will reward you for going the extra mile.

My impression of Curcusair, having recently dealt with some ramp managers, is that they promote the pains to get them out of the way. I have never in my life witnessed as much "buck passing" by one person than I did the other week. Beware, if you are good at the job you will stay doing it!

For my money, go to Swissport, a very proffesional outfit from what I can gather (others might disagree) and are likely to reward a good worker!

Firstly, good luck with whatever you chose, career-wise.

Here's the thing - you want to 'give it a lot', which is fine. They will 'get a lot' out of you, which is fine for them. However, they're then only going to give back £5.30 an hour? Therein lies the problem, my friend!

As others have said, there are other ground handlers out there. Alternatively, join a large airline as a customer service rep, do your time there (1 year or so) then move onward and upward within an airline environment. Again, good luck!

OK now im really confused !!!

Does anyone work in Dispatch for Servisair that can talk me thru their job please?

I am not sure i wanna work for £5.30 an hour however much i want to do the job. It's such a shame cuz the job really appeals to me and I know I can give my all to it. I guess its just getting your foot in the door to prove that I can !!

I dont really want to do any check in work as it doesnt really interest me, but a few people have said it seems to be the best way to get into Dispatch, funny tho, who would want to go from a warm terminal to a freezing runway !!!

Thanks for your input guys i need guidance here, and would love to hear from a "real" Dispatcher !!!

I would walk away, £5.30 p/h, shifts, tough working environment and working for a company who couldn't inform you of money/shifts at the interview, don't contact you afterwards and then (potentially) your boss gets annoyed when you enquire as to how you have done?

You only get one life, one chance, don't waste it bothering with people who don't value your time, effort and commitment.
