From everything you've said it doesn't sound like they've behaved very professionally, i'm not sure why you would still be so keen to work for them?
Why put all your eggs in one basket? I think you should cut your losses and start applying for other jobs, speculatively or otherwise! If you're keen then you're bound to find something somewhere!
