BA cancellations

As BA has cancelled several flights in the past few days I would like to know when do they decide to cancel a certain flight; the same day, one day or two days in advance?

The first leg of the flight is inbound from Europe to LHR (Terminal 1). The second leg is from terminal 4 to Asia. I'm mostly concerned with the first leg of the flight as I understand most flights to terminal 1 are the ones that have been most affected.

I must travel on Monday and BA is the only option I've got. I spoke with BA this afternoon and the agent didn't say very much. He said he had no idea.

cancellations of flights are often (not always) subject to ad hoc decisions.
so if there´s an immediate threat to an airline they will decide weather to cancel the flight or not.
just speak to your travel agent or the ba hotline again tonight and if your flight is cancelled ask them to rebook you onto other flights e.g. from europe mainland to asia...
good luck

Cancellations are made months in advance, but airlines hold out on telling the passengers until the moment when they can cause the greatest inconvenience.

Sorry all tongue in cheek.

Seriously though it all depends on the situation, if there is a cancellation which is made the day or a few days prior it gives airlines plenty of time to make alternative arrangements for the passengers.

When a cancellation is made last minute that's when you'll probably run into a few problems. I'd suggest you contact the airline again the night before or on the day of your flight to make sure everything is running to plan.

It is normally short haul flights that get affected more than long hauls as a lot of the time the crew are coming in from somewhere else and if they get held up it knocks onto the next flight.

With long the crew are normally starting their duty at that airport and not from somewhere else. Likewise the aircraft would have come from the other side of the world and not be so affected by restricions etc.

It is also easier to cancel a short haul rotation as it will on many occasions be the same crew taking the aircraft out and then back in again later in the day so it knocks straight out inseatd of rolling onto another crew etc.
