Virgin ops
Does anyone know why there has been movement within Virgin ops recently; is it due to the expansion???
Recent jobs advertised include: Operations officer / Crewing Officer?

Great package, great company...........real shame about the basic!
Is this really what kind of a price is put on the head of a good quality, experienced Ops Controller in the UK these days????
No wonder most Ops folk feel under-valued and under-recognised.
And if that's what one of the more 'prestigious' of UK operators is prepared to offer, then NO WAY are they going to support, advocate, or actively encourage the regulatory bodies in Europe to push through any kind of approved Ops training requirement for their staff coz obviously.... they just don't care!
Shame on you Virgin.

To relate my earlier post to present climes, just replace 'great' with 'sh1t', but leave the 'real shame about the basic' bit the same.
OR.... 'Great package, great company' could actually be referring to Gucci, but then only you'd know that, not me!

Was thinking of moving to this place myself however as you say the basic is pretty crap considering its London. I wouldn't move from Manchester. Just not worth it.
Shame really, Would be nice to have 'Virgin Atlantic' on the cv!!

My sentiments exactly!
I think it's sad that people in Ops jobs around the UK would potentially aspire to work for a high-profile, reasonably successful carrier such as VS, only to find that they want to pay you less than most of the small regional outfits dotted around the UK who operate out of a portakabin in the corner of a car-park somewhere.
Shift pay must be what, somewhere in the region of 3-4k per annum? And no London weighting? You'd be broke before you knew it.
Personally, I'd say a suitable remuneration for the services of an experienced Ops bod in that neck of the woods working for that kind of operator should be around 24/25k pa BASIC plus plus.
I'm not saying that one's salary should always be directly proportional to the size / profile / success of an airline, but within the realms of sense and sensibility surely there should be something on offer that is mutually beneficial.

I had always assumed (as many others I would guess) that VS would provide one of the better paid jobs. Their HQ in Crawley looks the business - maybe thats where all the money went!!

BAE Systems offering up to 25k + benefits + o/t for an Ops Controller with TWO years experience, and I reckon that would be a nice cushy little number too!
Versus VS's 19k, I know which one I'd go for...

I've had dealings with Bae Corperate before - sounds like an Ops Assistants job to me.
I think blackbox got it right - the VS position is just a glorified Ops Asst. job.....

Seaton, looking at the ad again and reading between the lines, it looks like that they may call their Assistants 'controllers' and their controllers 'officers'
