aircraft tooling

does somebody has some good tips to get aircraft tooling at reasonable prices? Also Avionics tooling tips needed.
How is tool control organised in other companies?

From a new Part145

I'd say go for top whack tools, snap-on or similar. 'Cos you'll save money in the long run for having tools with lifetime guarantees e.t.c. Same with avionics and test equipment. At my college we have all snap-on tools with a tag system for the tool stores.
I'd hate to think of the price for equipping out a part 145 with tools , but good tools=good quality work, well, most of the time .
Hope this helps

Tool companies that offer lifetime guarantees (Such as Snap-on, Facom, etc,) are run by franchisees and will try to get out of any replacements or repairs that might cost them money or inconvenience!
I needed to get a screwdriver fixed and was asked for a receipt. After a long discussion I was told that guarantees are not transferable, so proof of purchase was needed.

These companys make great tools, but keep the receipts

I'm with the others regarding quality tools, but having short arms and deep pockets, why not try and pick up some ex-military tooling? Try a search on the web or look at specific military sites like "milweb". You could even try sealed bid auction sites like "Ramco".

Try Craftsman tools. Lifetime guaranteed..uncondiationally. If you ever snap a tool you can just hand it in to any SEARS store in the states and they replace it there and then. The tools are excellent quality...not far off from Snap On in my opinion. Go to Sears.com and flick thru the tooling part for a look at all they have. Also with the Euro vs Dollar at the moment it is very good value!
Off the top of my head i read somehwere that K-Mart are now one of the main suppliers of craftsman tools also.

In relation to your question on how the tooling is controlled, my last workplace had, where possible, a bar code on the tool. When you go to the tool store this tool would be then put out against your name on the aircraft you are working on. This had 2 advantages...You can see who has what tool and also at the end of the check you can see what tools are remaining against an aircraft. For the likes of hand tools where a bar code is not practical to stick onto it, the tools were etched with a number, and it was this number that was used to book the tool out. When it was entered intot he computer system in stores it would come up with the correctpart etc..e.g. 29876 when entered comes up as 2" multi hex socket...

Berten,

Are you looking for Aircraft specialist tools?

If it's general hand tools then I would agree with everything already said, if you need Eurocopter specific tools then PM me, I can give you details of a very reasonable tool supplier.

Craftsman tools

I agree with Celtic Mech. Craftsman are excellent value. Certainly never had a problem regarding replacements. Keep checking their site. Every week they have offers. Also if you have friends living near their Close out depots the bargains are unbelievable, providing it is what you want.
