B1 and B2
Here in the colonies, this refers to a couple of banana's on TV. Hence the mystery.
Anyone out there, probably Blighty, know how to convert an Australian CASA, ICAO type 2 licence, to B1 and/or B2?.
Who can issue them?.
We are under the belief down here that ICAO type 1 and 2 are different. Type 2 including all functions.

Gday mainwheel,
In my limited understanding, B1 & B2 are not at present obtainable under the old recognition system between casa and the caa. apparently there are a number of issues to be resolved between JAA members and the oz licence is not one of them. there does appear to be some light on the horizon though as the nz caa and casa are slowly aligning with the jaa system, which will hopefully mean conversion is possible, but likely a few years away yet. (pity as there are good contracts in EU)
nb; icao type 1 is an overhaul licence (workshop)
icao type 2 is a line maint licence
ps i heard u went back to se asia, or are u back in home base again?

Hope i haven't read that name the wrong way and that you are actually involved in a certain oil company.
Thanks for info. I gather it's much the same as coming here, and the lot has to be done. I believe at some stage there was a sampling procedure with it all.
We now have a trans-tasman agreement between CASA and whatever they are called in long white cloud. Both engineers and pilots are cross recognised.
We seem to not only be geographicly isolated when it comes to these things. As I say, B1 and B2 are a mystery.
I hope the powers to be can get together sometime on JAR, soon.
Where are you now?

Mainwheel,
As an Aussie licence holder who also has an interest in gaining a JAR B2 licence I have made enquiries to the UK CAA and spoken to other UK licence holders.
The bottom line is you have to start again.
There are no exemptions for non JAA member licence holders and you have to sit all the modules, just like redoing all the basics exams.
Now this I could kind of handle if it was all that is required however if you want your B1/B2 licence to be type rated you will have to resit your type course. If like me you sat yours in Aust(I did mine at QF) it is worthless.JAR requires aircraft type courses to be sat at JAR147 approved training organisations.
I'd say you would have to way up if it is worth it.You'd have to spend months if not a year at least in the UK/Europe sitting the modules and resitting type courses.
I get annoyed that some countries outside Europe/ JAA will now only accept JAR licences and not the CASA licence.
Hope this helps

Just as an interesting extra to chucky's post, because Boeing's training subsidiary (or joint venture or whatever it is now) refused to submit to JAA audit and apply for JAR 147 approval, Boeing type courses aren't recognized for JAA type approvals. You have to attend the training at a JAR 147 approved training centre.

Keep that recipe a secret please. Or are you trying it on cheesecakes?
Pity the B1 and B2 are out of reach in reality, would make for some good contracts.
Yes, back in asia, can't seem to keep away. Still got itchy feet but that may change later in year. Depends.
Are you driving north and over bridges or south to work these days?.
