Spad,
What happened 13 years ago has nothing to do with VB today. Anti discrimination laws have changed markedly since 1989 so AN may or may not have broken them. So what.
I can just imagine the law talkin' dude - "Oh, mr Godfrey, we wont charge you with discrimination because 13 years ago AN got away with it". Awesome defence.

Icarus,
"if Airline X said we will only employ pilots above 175cm tall with blue eyes, they can do this. They have that right and there is no remedy in law."
We are in no way in agreement. Your statement above is totally incorrect.

How is my statement incorrect?
Height and hair colour are not categories included in anti-discrimination legislation, as demonstrated by your post.
So how can someone seek a legal remedy if they feel discriminated against because they are 171cm talll with brown eyes?
The person signing the cheques still has some rights surely?

....and Oicur12 again, "This is from the Queensland anti discrimination act of 1991.
Ahh, what a difference 2 years makes!!
Do you guys REALLY find it all that hard to play by the SAME rules??!!
WE don't!
Obviously YOU do !!

Excellent........you're out of the industry (and yelling about it), scabs can't get jobs because they refused to work with pre-89ers and oicur is indignant.
Made my day that has.
BTW: It isn't just Virgin that seem to be having trouble with scabs. How many have joined Cathay or Dragon in HK (none) and Emirates (two I understand). Why might that be? Don't tell me, their CP's and their entire workforce are all inncredibly immature too?
Forgive me my moment of emotivity.........seriously, in all reality you can't expect to **** on your peers and expect them to welcome you back. No discrimination law will prevent Virgin or any airline from employing appropriate candidates. For whatever reason (years of being indulged?) Virgin deem certain ex-AN pilots inappropriate. Game over. Next subject.

Always appreciative of a Trans-Tasman perspective.
Would have to disagree, smartest thing VB could do has been done.Tear up AirNZs cheque to prevent infestation of monumental incompetence.
VB welcomes union pilots. Many former KD pilots active or vocal for the AFAP, have had good hiring success.

No confusion, especially if chronologically rearranged-about the some of it don`t you think?
The dancing alias always essential when working for AN.Wary of assasination from many quarters.
Barking up the wrong tree in one instance.
If I have the wrath of the 89ers may be time to dance again.Just thought Kapt M`s post on Virgin Blue difficult to swallow, considering history.
On a pleasant note, another 15 young AN pilots found employment last week, predominately with Dragon.

Oicur I thought you were smarter than that , of course he knows.
Industrial relations is a subject I think Corrigan has been involved with before.
For all your rantings you are not going to change Virgins recruiting policy so how about stirring some other pot eh!

The "young" AN pilots WILL get jobs.
All members of the industry feel for the innocents who lost employment due to the AN fiasco - thank the ACTU among others.
The greed of the heroes in "that year" and the active support of an "un-Australian" PM and his thug mate are ultimately the main contributing factors to the collapse of a once great airline. Stiff bikkies, boys!
As stated earlier on this thread, game over and next subject please.

Virgin crew and pre-war Ansett pilots certainly have one thing in common, they are both extremely sensitive about their positions and very quick to jump potential 'non believers' as greedy or scabby fat cats.
Personally, I prefer my 'back' seat with a major carrier, with all the perks and trimmings together with the prospect of promotion to larger types operating to a diversity of destinations both international and domestic.
But that is my personal preference.
If others are happy flying for DJ then so be it, yes I believe they should be paid more, but thats their problem, not mine.
Live and let live.
