Got to hand it to them, what a coup. Just watched Entertainment Tonight which had the story and interview with JT; with a huge poster of the Red Rat behind him. Now 250 million Yanks know. Excellent work. (And no, I don't work for them either, got knocked back too!)

Anyone know what the uniform he's wearing is? Is it a Qantas uniform from back then, or something pulled elsewhere?...
Lancer
Edited because it's far too late at night!

Uniform
The QEA ( Qantas Empire Airways ) uniform that John Travolta is wearing is one of the type that the Captains wore ( and hence of the airline's B707-138B era ) until the late sixties. The white hat with QEA crest, and double breasted jacket, were then replaced by the blue hat and single breasted jacket.
Although the airline's fleet started wearing the QANTAS titles from 1952 ( on the L749s ), the airline's name did not officially change from QEA to Qantas Airways Ltd. until August 1967, hence the uniform.

Ah! The Warren reference was a compliment then? Sorry I didn't recognise it (foreign concept!). We're not talking about see more are we?
Unfortunately I'm not a pilot, famous or otherwise, and it's difficult to keep the finger on the pulse after retiring from the industry but I will always recognise a beautiful aeroplane and a brilliant marketing campaign when I see one. It's unfortunate that some QF aspirants seem to think that JT is jumping the queue, but if this campaign is as successful as it deserves to be, there will be more pass.... sorry customers, more aeroplanes and ergo more pilots (and rest assured JT won't be one of them). It's also unfortunate that some are querying the relevance of an American citizen promoting an Australian airline. Therein lies the brilliance of the campaign. There's nothing special about an Australian (even a celebrity) promoting an Australian airline but if you can persuade an international celebrity to promote an Australian airline, that's marketing genius. If said international celebrity also happens to own and operate a piece of Australian aviation history, all the better. (Let's not forget that the short fuselage 707-138B was unique to Qantas). Although the basic idea was apparently JT's, Qantas must get full credit for having the courage to run with it.
Cheers

He's certainly getting airtime here (east of the pond) on the entertainment/gossip shows.
A marketing coup IMHO...now they'll see Steve Irwins movie in the near future and won't want to come

Nothing ever changes!!!!!
JT is no different from the rest of you that got jobs at Q.
He had his licence suspended for beat ups over a mates place in his 707. Seems like you have to have some sort of incident before you are eligible!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nunc est bibendum
Geez, you mean someone caught me doing beat ups of my mates place in my 707? Damn! I thought I got away with that and QF didn't know about it.
That does explains everything. It's not because I'm related to someone after all! Thank goodness for that!

Salute??
Thanks Wirraway for the picture of Travolta saluting - I'm not sure who - I guess the boss Dickson.
I knew you had to call the Captain "Sir" in QF, but saluting!!
Is he a paid up member of the Union? Might be wise - I'm sure he's going to do something to embarrass.....
Fill it up with fellow members of the Church of Scientology I'd guess.. and um er fly them to the Bank?
