SOPS, Gidday Mate, tought you all I knew and you still knew nuttink. Great times in the old lady for sure.
Nil defects, yes thats the one, although it was the B*&^dy stator that went out thru the turbine and caused the ruckas, I can still see the cuts in the tailpipe in my bad dreams.
Asked to keep the bit but it went to RR.
The real fast mover, apart from us, was the Comet Express that took the engine to BME in 22hrs from PER by Road!!!!!
Yes I did do maths at school and it is a formidable average for a turbo truck, but it happened!!!
Sorry for the delay but was on a short SE Asian tour "Checking the Traps" as the old hunters say.
Saw a 1000 QC in my travels this week, now there is a rare Fokker, looking good in a fancy paint job, smelling of SKydrol and having an APU problem. Memories of old and even longer days when you waited for a "Blow Job" from one of the others with that long hose.

For anyone who finds their F28 will not airstart and the butterly on the last valve will not open and allow the air to flow - take one dumb airport manager - place hin on a set of refuellers stairs - open the hatch at the bottom of the turbine housing and have him place his nice warm paw around the valve housing. The body heat causes the casing to expand an release the vale allowing airflow and scaring the living suitcase out of the person hanging on to the turbine as it leaps to life. A cold weather tip for those still working with the wonderful ladies.

Lots of hours left in them Lurk R - especially FKO?? I believe. Someone says she has the lowest hours of any F28 in captivity. (No one knows about the free range ones!) The aeroplane I refer to is ex Lloyds and operated for Eeenie Weenie for a while. When we got it - it was an engineering nightmare and was delayed in entering service while the lames tried to make her an aeroplane again - not 25000 rivets and bolts flying in lose formation. She spent a good deal more time than planned in TMW AMD.

There is no death for an "out of airframe hours Aussie F28" - there is always Indo.

VH-FKD was maxed on hours and sold to Merpati and ferried solo by an orang gila back to CGK to join the fleet. They do however have a useby even there as there are a heap of them pushed up against the fence at CGK and SUB. Maybe just heavy landings.

Sort of like the DC9-30 in GA strip that is probably still hidden in the palms at DPS with a definite bend in the fuselage caused by a very heavy landing. McD sent out engineers to check her over and they just smiled and got out the order book. Microburst (in the tropics??) was blamed. Pilot must have been the son of a general.

What a tragic picture of a wonderful airliner.

I remember seeing the TN Viscount 700s rotting at MEB as a boy - and remember crying and askin my father who was a lame why no-one loved them anymore.

They all deserved better.

EWL,

Mate, I'm with you. If I won lottery, or was just god damn wealthy, I'd try help the cause, and buy an old airliner. 727, DC9, F28...etc

It's such a sad sight. I've seen first hand what they do and how they let them rot in the deserts in the USA.

Not a dignified way of seeing a piece of awesome construction, destroyed.

The Bangladesh connection.

What was the story on the proposed purchase of S2-ACH and -ACJ (both 4000s) from BG ???

Were these ever seriously considered for purchase or was it just a rumour ???

If anyone does discover who the new owners are, would be interested to know.

I am trying to get my hands on a retired F28 airframe to be modified for use by a non-profit space research organisation. See the thread "Aviation community help for Mars-Oz sought. A PPRuNer on Mars!" in this forum. Maybe either a visionary benefactor to purchase for us, or maybe donation?
