The ANstaff consortium has withdrawn its bid
MELBOURNE, Nov 15 AAP - The Ansett staffers bid to control Ansett Mark II took a surprise turn today when they announced they would fold their bid and join the Solomon Lew-Lindsay Fox proposal.
ANstaff spokesman Michael Jones said the group made its decision only immediately ahead of a 3pm creditors' meeting today.
He said ANstaff would dedicate all the resources at their disposal to helping the Lew/Fox consortium take wing.
Administrator Mark Mentha later told reporters the announcement had come as a surprise but it would now mean that the Lew/Fox proposal was far better resourced and more likely to succeed.
He said he hoped the new joint proposal would persuade the federal government to make a firm commitment to supporting the revived airline.
SYDNEY (Dow Jones)--A consortium of staff from Ansett said Thursday it has withdrawn its bid for Australia's second biggest airline.
The ANstaff consortium said it instead will support businessmen Solomon Lew and Lindsay Fox in their A$3.6 billion proposal to acquire cash-strapped Ansett.
Ansett administrators Mark Korda and Mark Mentha are locked in talks with a committee representing some 50,000 Ansett creditors in Melbourne.
