PROPSWINGA, the wealthy management of South Coast Aviation, with ex Horizon CP Mal Campbell as the Chief Pilot, are looking at expanding very quickly very soon. They flew their first run into Newcastle Harbour last week in a Caravan from Rose Bay and are looking at operating the old Sydney Sea Planes daily RPT run in addition to other seaplane services down South. I would say that getting in with this mob as a student now would be a sensible career move. They are in their own scenic training area, have nice planes and are a very tidy little school. I think their problems in the past were due to an inexperienced CFI.. .. .I would also recommend Crane Air. They are often overlooked because of size but are now the largest operator on Bankstown. They recently picked up Gerry Mcgowen's B1900 and Caravan contract to operate 6 nights a week and also have 70 odd percent of Sydney's bank runs. Their CP, Dave Foster, is mature age and has flown everything from Lear Jets, G4s and Falcons up to and including Kerry Packer's old DC9 - he is one of the nicest guys in aviation too! Their CFI is a also a very experienced Hazos C&T Captain on the SAAB. The owner is a bit of an old sourpuss but don’t let old Rod put you off!. .. .If I were a student today, I would approach Crane and negotiate a deal with some commercial exposure on completion. NO better way of getting a job.

Talking just another flying school?

Why not try Darwin Flight Standards in the Northern Territory...connected to a Regional operation, ATO on staff, multi-CIR training and in the region where you are most likely to get a job....the deep North...and the 'dry' is just around the corner CAVOK for at least 4 months.

Ph 08 89455944 or even 0419275501....

Re Dogimed's posts....

On one hand I'll say outright "bollocks" to Dogimed in regards to ....

Heard from friends that Curtis at Camden has gone downhill since Steve left?
The place is "going off" sice Craig got in the drivers seat, and the school is getting bigger and better with many more options than were available than when Steve was at the helm, so your little dig didn't break the soil.....

......but I'll go along with you re: Whitworths. I flew there for quite a long time (many years in fact due to personal circumstance), and in fact flew with one of the blokes (was at W'worths), who Hugh would prefer to steer clear of at Aerospace, and have nothing but praise.

A personal decision it would be me thinks, and only YOU could make it based on your own gut feeling.

Cool You must approach this wisely!!

Learning to fly isn't an easy decision to make, and would recommend that before you start ANYWHERE that you approach them all and settle for the place that does a number of things for you, 1- Makes you feel welcome, and comfortable, 2 - That you can simply tell is run by a switched on team and run professionally and 3- Somewhere that you can learn effectively and in an enjoyable and friendly environment, for an affordable sum(i.e you should feel happy to be forking out the $$$'s!!)

In terms of YSBK I can only recommend from my own "experiences" that Crane Air are definately worth a look, as has been mentioned they may not be "Flashy" or "Prance About" in ridiculour manner, but they more than get the job done, and as previously stated by TINSTAAFL owned by one of the best GA aviators of his time, who is only more than happy to help an interested, inclined and determined student, try getting that from owners elsewhere(FOR FREE!!!)?? BTW I do NOT work there, and as I said before it won't be an easy decision to make and I'm by no way trying to influence you, however am offering my experiences with the operator and can comment that I do have memorable experiences there.

Mango 3, saw Dave last week and would be happy to pass on your regards next time I see him however will he know who "Mango 3" really is??

Turbine, mate your half right, the CFI is now on the SF340, however WAS Fleet Capt. on the M23.

PROPSWINGA for gods sake pull your head in you clown! It is idiots like you that are killing the industry!!!

If you are looking to do your ATPL spend a little extra time and money and go to Advanced Flight Theory at Maroochydore airport.
The course is taught by Nathan Higgins. A truly professional theory provider.

Don't be fooled by tantalising job prospects after completion of your training with anyone. They may promise it, but lets see if you can get it in writing........somehow I don't think that will happen.

After you are finished training with a company and you are no longer worth $$$ to them, they will simply say you don't have "enough experiance". That is the end of the story, the hard reality. I have learned this from bitter experiance.

I would think more important than the school, is choosing the right instructor. It's imprtant to find an instructor you connect with.

Talking

PROPSWINGA, mate your remarks regarding Turbine's comments, were foolish and proved your stupidity, Turbine is quite correct and was simply stating some "Truthful" facts you clown! I was not being judgemental, was simply replying to a post with my opinions, which is what I believe occurs on PPRuNe quite often?

Mate you speak of "get a life"... for how should one value his or her life by your standards, what are you standards?? Mate your childish and immature and I feel very sorry for you.

Clamback and Hennessy are one of the best places in Sydney along with Billy and the boys at Whitworths. I have used both these organisations for various things and consider them to be the best around. I hold a G1 instructor rating with multi turbine check and training along with an ATPL so having been in the industy for a while I can recommend these companys to give you the best professional training around.

I have found Clamback & Hennessy excellent.

I have flown with Clamback and Hennessy, and trained there, off and on over the years. I still hire their PA-28-151's, some of the best maintained aircraft around in the industry and well priced. Great value for money.

I had a check ride a few weeks ago, great instructors with excellent people skills to go with it.
