Barge I think he was being sarcarstick! If I get an interview with the big Q because I work for the big A then that suits me.Just remember its the employers desicion as to who gets the interview and if he wants to see a whole bunch of Ansett pilots then so be it.Just remember that every Ansett pilot Qantas takes on means someone Ansett has to train when and if it is restarted.

Cool

Hotnhigh

It's unbelievable, they have a strangle hold on the Oz market and they still can't get any manners or get organised. As for AN priority, cost effective ready to go and experienced to the hilt. Stop whingeing CaptXXX.

Question

I understand what you mean by "ready to go" and "experienced", Speedbird, but cost effective? Would you care to elaborate?

Red face

I left the often petty and small-minded Oz aviation scene 2 years ago but I keep a half-interested eye on the proceedings via PPRUNE...It saddens me to see not much has changed for many people in this catty and whining industry. Some of you need a chip taken out of the other shoulder! I'm not sure who it was that promised you a career with QF or AN.......Try and ditch some of the negativity before you completely ruin your lives!!! Best of luck to those of you with some fortitude who are quietly getting on with things in this extremely difficult period. Cheers,

PG

Exclamation

To those that feel cheated and done out of a hard earned job.

Qfs written stated policy to current crew (and goodness knows that can't be an untruth ) is that ex Ansett drivers get priority to do the selection process ONLY!

After that, they are on the hold file the same as everyone else and get selected in order of merit.

Have a nice day and good luck. With recent aircraft orders it looks like QF will be recruiting at least until the end of next year!!

Thanks for the clarification there Keg, I think that everyone should just be patient and not get your emotions up! If you are suitable material for QF just apply go through the motions and be patient, I think the majority of successful candidates have had to go through the same process of waiting...after all it is their choice!

RPPT

Less money spent in the overall training required is what I mean by cost effective.

Question

Speedbird,

How will this be achieved? Are QF proposing to run some sort of shortened course for ex-AN pilots? I wouldn't have thought so, because I believe they put other ex-airline pilots through the normal PUIT courses. They put RAAF B707 pilots through the normal PUIT course. Just where and how is this cost effectiveness going to come into play?

Any pilot joining QF on a contract will get a difference course (including sims) lasting about 3 to 4 weeks.
Those that join to become a SO may end up going through a shortened "PUIT" course if they have flown the type before. I believe that some ex CX pilots went through a shortened course in the past.

Not wanting to twist the thread, but the buzz word I hear these days is 'Nepotism'. Back in the old days it was a case of 'who you knew'. Personally, I see no real difference. A previous reply made reference to the fact that management make the choice as to who gets a go. I regard this as a valid call. Having said that, how many flight departments out there have a Chief Pilot who actually controls the employment of pilots? I've been in this position before and had to accept whoever I was told to. Is this still the case now?

Good Point Mango3. That'd explain why Sunstate is filling up with ex FWA pilots. Mates rates in it's rawest form.

QF recruit to a very basic formula, a merry go raound if you will. Meet the basic entry criteria, 500 hrs comm \IFR blah blah and you get a shot at the psych profile. That takes care of 80 pc of us including Herc Sq leaders, 4 million hr PA 31 drivers etc etc. and of course recently AN drivers. All the hoo har about shortened courses and what havya are after the fact. Do not look for reason and rationality, it aint there.

Dear Chaps,
For anyone interested in a meaningful career with a company that cares about them, look further afield than QF. This southseas wankfest has had its 15 minutes of fame. Look to the future and an airline that believes!
You HAVE been warned.

YAKYAK, you are a clown (not the funny type), but I get the feeling that is your aim in life (read the profile). Good to see you have set such high ambitions for yourself.

Wouldnt have got knocked back by Q by any chance?

Get real folks, The thing most important to the companies is $$$ period. They could not give a s-it about you, or your aspirations. You have no hope unless you have friends at the top of these companies.
Any manager who thinks otherwise will get the chop.

For all of those interested the good qf recruitment oil post announcement of new short haul narra bodies is: 28 to 30 puits per month for the next 12 months surprised me but makes good sense as it appears (contract crew aside) there will be a big drain on current qf s/o's for Australian and the new 73whatevers. (thats where my money is)
Having said that I havn't heard of any recent courses or many guys getting in anyone know anything any different???

Question

Is there any point in applying to Q without the complete quals (ie 5/7 ATPL subjects). Just wondering if they turf your letter out if you meet the other quals, however you dont have the ATPL subjects ??

Any help would be great ...

Cheers

Forget it Little Herc. It's all or nothing, and that is with all their requirements, including ATPL subjects. Give them a phone call to check, if you like.

Getting back to the original question, a course is starting next week which is mainly filled with cadets who have recently finished their training courses (CPL group holders).

In simple terms, they have gone straight into the airline after their cadetship training.

As for DE pilots, late this year and progressing into next year will see courses running hot - so for guys on hold you may not be waiting too much longer.

Cool

Nice to hear that QF man. I understand that having qualified guys from AN "ready to go" with loads of jet hours etc would be considered an "asset", its just that there are loads of other guys in Hong Kong, Mid East and Europe, all with loads of widebody time, all anxious to get home, that have been patiently waiting to become "assets" for a long while, and don't want to be pushed back any further because of a political notion that QF HAVE to give priority to AN guys. That said best of luck when you hop in the pool with the rest of us!
