Q recruitment

Has anyone been notified of a start date with Qantas since Sept 11. I know one course has started since, however I believe they all had their notification prior to Sept 11. To put it simply I'm trying to work out whether the Q is also slowing down. My understanding is that they are still interviewing and are placing people on the hold file, but I have not heard of anyone recieving a start.
Any info appreciated
Thanks

There was a thread a few weeks back with a post by a reasonable sounding source (if such a thing exists!) saying the Direct Entry recruitment was being slowed for the moment while they concentrate on sorting out the Cadets for next year.

Have also heard that the big Q are making moves to abolish the hold file system. Whether this has happened or not, or is still the plan, is anyones guess.

They haven't gotten rid of the hold file yet. I know quite a number of people who are still on it. I assume they'll all either be called up to start a course or be given the boot (comparatively quickly) when QF decides to phase out the system. But then I've been hearing reports that the system was to be ending for years now, so who knows...

Understand the hold file system is to be replaced by a new system called the 'Hurry up and wait selection process.' Basically you spend a load of cash getting down there to complete all of their tasks and then you will be left to wallow in your own hope. This may last up to a few years if you are lucky. During this time you won't receive any information from them on your status. Phone calls made regarding your progress will be answered with the same prerecorded message, at least the voice sounds human on the other end, but don't be fooled, its the same message over and over again. But wait there is more.......I do believe from a reliable source that there will be some recruitment, some time. But you'll just have to wait. Unless you are fortunate enough to be classed as a c$&£*.

There're a bunch of names proposed for the new system (QF took a leaf out of the CASA book "same sh!t, different name):
active hold
active consideration
considerate hold
hold considerately and stay active
considerable activity
and many other variations of the above, basically making a key point of avoiding telling you whether or not you've passed the process.
Whats active consideration or hold as opposed to, say, passive consideration or hold?? Get real!!

The Ansett pilots will get priority IF they meet the big Q requirements.
Go for it .Don't wait for a hand engraved invitation.

SuPeRcHaRgEd 17th Oct 2001 04:34

After spending years now gathering the experience and Theory to be eligible to apply to Qantas and just after submitting my application I was told by Qantas recruiting over the phone the other day that the Ex Ansett fellas will go straight to the top of the que.

Great timing on my behalf!

SixDemonBag 17th Oct 2001 07:37

Of course they say the Ansett pilots have to go to the top of the pile. It's all political. At the end of the day, the does the white rat want 5000hr jet jockies sitting in the 1st observers seat for 3 years? It's not their 'profile'. Things won't change....

They will only use the Ansett pilots for short term contracts.

They have got experienced RAAF jockeys sitting in the observers seat as Captains sexual advisers. These dudes are happy to have a good pay packet and a flying career, unlike with Ronny Raaf. Whats the diff?

eagle767 18th Oct 2001 04:09

SixDB....QF have already interviewed Ansett pilots to come in as S.O.s.
By the way they have in the past employed airline pilots with 5000hrs plus as S.O.s, some are now First Officers and a couple are Captains.
If you want the job, you get on with life and try and not worry about the past. :)

The biggest question is how many people are currently on the QF hold file? I have heard that they are currently interviewing (1st stage) about 6 per day. Even if only one or two make it through to the end, that still indicates a pretty large hold file is building.

Also, have any AN people yet made it to the hold file, and are there any courses due in the near future?

Capt. XXXX 19th Oct 2001 04:44

I've got no problems with AN guys applying for Qantas, and getting in line with everyone else, but what right do these guys have to any priority whatsoever. There are guys who have been applying with Qantas when the AN guys had no intrest in ever working for QF, so why have they suddenly gone to the top of the list. Stinks of union involvement if you ask me. :(

onya 19th Oct 2001 05:16

Capt XXXX I totally agree with you but it's not just happening in mainline QF but also in the regionals. Many of the now unemployed champions that were with AN regionals that had never shown any interest in working for QF or their affiliated regionals, and who thought they were at the top of the pile, are now getting walk up starts around the place when there are plenty of pilots that had been putting their all into securing a position with the likes of Eastern, Southern and Sunstate for a long time before AN went t1ts up and now can't get a shoe in. I reckon it bl__dy stinks. Sure they may be out of work and I sympathise with their plight but they don't deserve the favouritism that they are getting.

Thats my five cents worth.

Onya

An exAN pilot, most >9000 hrs,in a pretty good environment of checking/training and a multitude of airline endorsements. If these people get through a QF selection process & harmoniously join the ranks, that is an employment asset.

hotnhigh 19th Oct 2001 10:56

Might be an assett bulldog but what of the others already in the pool from other airlines. Aren't these blokes an assett as well? And and at least they were interested before the last months happenings. As Capt. xxxx hints, it pisses off others that have been waiting inline patiently for up to a year, why? Get to the back of the queue.

MT Edelstone56 19th Oct 2001 12:24

Hotnhigh,
not in the queue.Your just a pawn in the big powerplay of aviation politics.

Everthing has a price, the price of good PR in the present situation is to take exAN workers.

So many people have been affected by AN`s demise, now you to,my heart bleeds about as much as those distraught on talkback radio over the loss of their FF points.

Don`t despair, you`ll make. Not that many AN guys will take the QF option.

ground_hog 19th Oct 2001 12:31

No mate.....not that one....the other one over there....thats it....the far queue!!

KAOS 19th Oct 2001 13:05

GET IN THE QUEUE LIKE EVERYONE ELSE!
They're not the first to lose their job. Therefore no special political bull*hit treatment.

MT Edelstone56 19th Oct 2001 14:10

Kaos,
go and see your local member.Tell him it`s just not fare, you have a job and preferrential processing is given to someone who hasn`t.
If he doesn`t listen go and see Mr Dixon, tell him it`s just not fare. The astute Mr Dixon will tell you it`s just good business.
I have read all the posts here and decided that to continue in this most honourable of professions, where all pilots long haul/shorthaul/military/GA display personal virtues that continually further the good cause,to withdraw my application for QF.
Thanks gentleman,I have awoken & smelt the coffee.

Bargearse 19th Oct 2001 14:43

Good, thats one more out of my way :p

Bulldog, you're a fool if you have based a long term career descision on the drivel that some submit to this forum.
