I think mrfish knows what I'm about. Some of the majors require you to undergo ~5 hrs or so in a Dutchess for their particular licence.

Makes sense to already be familiar on type so the transition is smoother!

Hmmm, definitely can't be Blue Circle. They seem to prefer no previous experience lately!

I think what Curious G is saying is that the latest (month or so ago)sim rides for for Eagle were in the AFS sim. Would that be right?

Not quite.

To aquire a HK ATPL/ CPL licence, you are required to do a flight test in Aussie.

This is currently done on the Dutchess.

Hope this clears any confusion

to get down to the nitty gritty.

what are you going to do after getting the rating?

what future employeer are you looking at? what type of machines does he fly?

then ask yourself - is the money i'm spending on the multi-rating going to help towards that goal.

if you just want a initial multi-rating then $$$ plays a big part.

if however you look towards the future then yes check out prices on other machines.

flyrealfast and the others are correct - them out all options.

by the way Harry Scott doesn't work at the aeroclub anymore. and they have gone down hill from there.

good luck

Huey Lewis - or anyone else in the know - How does a twin get charged out with the Hobbs or tacho??

What I mean is do you pay for the time you start engine 1 to the time you shut down engine 2 or what?

There is probably a simple explanation but its a question thats had me curious for a long time now.

Thanks in advance!

Give Whenuapai a ring to make sure but I think it is charged off the right (?) engine. So by doing this the meter starts and stops with the engine, unlike airswitches.

KAVU- A mate told me that Harry Scott did a check for some bloke in the Bay of Plenty flight centres SENECA. Is he doing the odd job for them now? Not bad having 2 'A' Cats.

Curious G- If Mrfish is wanting to get a MEIR do you think he gives a toss about the HK ATPL. I may be wrong and I appoligise, but Mrfish sounds as though he is a long way away hours wise to getting ANY ATPL licence. Once he does have the requirements it wont matter if he flew the duchess or any aircraft for that matter.

Fly Real Fast, Before you go around making assumptions about peoples qualifications and experience I suggest you sit back and contemplate the fact that GA is not the only form of aviation in NZ. There are plenty of very experienced Multi-Engine and Helicopter pilots in NZ who have no CAA licence whatsoever Eventually these personnel move on from their previous employer and lo and behold want a civilian licence via the most expeditious means. Funnily enough these people get snapped up by the majors.

On a related issue, can anyone recommend a cheap, preferably central or upper North Island based twin to me? I'm a kiwi now resident in the UK and looking to buy about 30 multi hours up front over the nov/dec/jan period ... I don't need an instructor, an air transport certificate or even particularly give a **** if it's VFR or IFR, I just want some cheap and nasty multi time to take back to the UK with me so I can do my Pom multi instructor's rating after my xmas holiday back home. Preferably Seneca, Duchess, or twin Comanche although I'll consider anything if the price is right.

(There was a guy on here not too long ago banging on about some Apache that was going out for less than $200 an hour as I recall, anyone remember it or got more details?)

And yes, I already know messr's Sattler, Hooker and Carter, just looking to see if anyone's got anything better than the big schools have got to offer? Email me with any gen please ...

Exclamation

Air Academy Hastings (HB&ECAC)offered a good deal when I worked there a good few years ago, at least if you were any good you stood a chance a picking up a job as they flog around the area in Senecas doing the odd bit of charter and Air Ambulance. Rates are pretty good, and at least you don't have to deal with pretentious dickheads that think that aviation only exists north of the Bombays...
