I'm looking for a graphics package for designing various diagrams for my thesis. It doesn't need to be incredibly flash, as most of my diagrams are black outlines, with possibly block colours. What it does need to have is the ability to turn snapping on/off, plus a range of boxes and lines, tools which allow you to easily reproduce segments of the picture, put circles round numbers, save as jpeg etc etc.
I've tried using Powerpoint in the past, but don't have it on this machine... plus found it a bit limiting (although I can't remember quite why now).
I can't be much more specific than this about my requirements. I guess the closest I could come would be to say I need to take sketches in my notebooks, and make them look neat!
Preferably it needs to be free, because I have absolutely no spare money. I only need it for maximum three months, so maybe software offering a free trial period would work.
Thanks for any help...
Oh, and Windows XP.

Aerbabe,
Sounds like Adobe Illustrator could be for you. Don't know if Rugz was able to assist but it should be fine for what you need.
It can be a bit of a beastie but stick with it as it's v. useful once you get the hang of it. As for getting hold of a copy, that could be tricky if you don't want to spend. There's a trail version at http://www.adobe.com/products/illustrator/main.html and click on "Downloads".
It won't let you save/export/print - but at least you'll get to sample it to see if it's for you.
Good luck!

I have sitting on the desk in front of me a, legal, CD of Visio 2000 Technical. I bought it in the USA in case it ever came in useful. If you want to borrow it for a few months, drop me a message with your name and address and I'll put it in the post today.
Just uninstall it and return the CD when you've finished with it.

Paint Shop Pro could do the job, and the trial version forgets to disable itself after 30 days! I also have a very simple but powerful one called Micrografx Windows Draw 6 which is easy to use but can do all you wanted...
