Rip music from my old iPod Classic to PC iTunes

Just found my old iPod Classic and without much hope plugged it in. My my, it still works! Battery seemss OK in the sshort term. Poking around I found ȧ lot of music that I'd previously ripped from a pal and don't have anymore. Some lovely stuff that I'd thought lost forever! How can I xfer / copy this to iTunes Windows 11?

Tried all the usual tricks including mounting it as an HFS+ for Windows volume but music not visible though it mounts successfully.

Anyone have any tricks for me?

Cheers

Mac

I burnt my whole cd collection onto iTunes..I upgraded my iTunes subscription and it wiped the lot..two days and a second subscription eventually discovered hard luck..iTunes would only then store music purchased through iTunes.
iirc got some of it copied from my iPod by a shop near brick lane in the east end onto a hard disc ..eventually gave up and use Spotify.

I take it you've tried the methods outlined here: https://www.wikihow.com/Copy-Music-f...-Your-Computer

The bit about making hidden folders visible might be the missing step?

Found that, thanks.

Some progress at last - not there yet.

Seems to me all of the above is a good example of why one should keep a local copy of your data, and NOT use proprietary and/or 'cloud' software that locks you in/out of access to said data.

Keeping your music in say mp3 format on HDD or USB drive (preferably two or three so you have backups) will ensure you have it to hand when needed, when the interweb doesn't work, and in a format that pretty much anything will play. Even if you wish to continue with the proprietary/'cloud' lock-in I'd strongly suggest regularly exporting your data to a local backup using standard formats, if the system will allow (and if it didn't allow I'd be all the more leery of using it!).
