Gmail lockout

Restarted after a power failure (circuit breaker). Everything OK apart from Gmail refusing to accept login password.
Google's 'help instructions' are a Catch 22 - they send the confirmation code to the inaccessible Gmail address !!!
Does anybody have a suggestion for a recovery, please ?

Can you log in to your Gmail account from another device?

Thank you, Rev - tried two other machines and no joy. ...
however, I tried another Google search, found a sort of problem solving page , and, after several faults, managed to change passwords and log-n !
I quite understand the need for security, but this is getting slightly paranoid !
The reason for the 'lockout' was that I had stopped using a VPN and the login sequence was, therefore, different.
... all this on a day when I get a phone call to tell me that "you have an internet problem and your internet will be disconnected unless you call this number immediately" - such timing ! Quite useful really, as it gave me a chance to offer some choice little used invective to this helpful caller which may have convinced him that he should go elsewhere !
