Outlook Woes

Why does Outlook on my new(ish) Apple Mac Pro refuse to send emails that I am replying to, keeping them in the draft folder? No problem with my Samsung phone or other devices, I also discovered a few days ago that a friends new Apple Mac does the same, are we missing a setting? They both receive emails Ok but are also very slow to open Outlook unless I have another programme open, no problems with other web sites.
Thanks for your help

There is a setting that may be missing. If you go into:
Account Settings (will have to check on a Mac the exact location of this),
navigate to Change Account (this is where you enter your name, email address, password, Incoming and Outgoing mail server,
click on the More Settings button,
click the Outgoing Server tab,
put a check in the My outgoing server (SMTP )requires authentication,
make sure the option Use same settings as my incoming mail server is selected.
If that still doesn't work, post back here.
If you have trouble following the above or can't find the starting point, I can create a visual instruction set for you once I have connected the old Mac to some of that new fangled electricity stuff.

Thanks Biggles - apologies for not replying, been a bit busy of late but it appears to have resolved itself now that my internet speed has increased with the introduction of fibre broad band.
