I need some serious assistance in getting rid of the virus (Win32/Klex worm). I had NORTON 2002, but it died somehow. Does not work. Tried to delete & reload it, but I can't. Downlaoded a trial verison of V3 Pro deluxe from http://home.ahnlab.com/english/ and that doesn't kill it either. On doing a system scan, it says 51 files are affected with the virus, they are curable & will be processed according to the option settings (25). I've tried every option setting, but to no avail. Any assistance will be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Also try www.vet.com.au and download the evaluation version of their software. I have been using this for some years and has kept my beast clean.
I have also loaded onto other computers and it has found & remove Klez & co, where nortons just quarantined it.

mutt: the instructions on the Norton site are far too complicated for me to comprehend. I'm no good with computers. Thanks anyway.
Avtrician: went to http://www.vet.com.au/ & tried to download the'Vet 10.5 for windows Beta. No luck. I need a customer number. Can you post the link to the evaluation software download page? Thanks.

I don't know If you have managed to fix the virus but for what it's worth my free edition of AVG anti virus from Grisoft picked it up in an e-mail I received recently.
The instructions on the Norton site (The link that mutt published) are not as complicated as they first seem. It may be worth having another go.
The relevant parts are steps 1-13 (from To obtain and run the tool). It's probably worth printing out first, then clicking the links that are shown in the document.
Good luck.

PCav8or,
I thought that the download tool on Norton was automatic, the longwinded instructions were in case the tool didnt work.
Removal tool
Symantec has provided a tool to remove infections of all known variants of W32.Klez and W32.ElKern. Click here to obtain the tool. http://securityresponse.symantec.com...oval.tool.html
This is the easiest way to remove these threats and should be tried first.
Good Luck

I think you'll find you still need to follow the instructions.
Down load to desk top (or easily found location)
Disable the System Restore Function. Start menu/accessories/system tools/system restore then settings.
Restart the puter in safe mode (by hammering away at f8 on start up)
Run the executable 'fixklez' (double click it)
Follow instructions.
Restart puter normaly.
Enable System restore. (as above)
Job done

Thank you all. I used the Norton link & got rid of the virus, but then could not load Norton Anti Virus again. Beat's me!! It starts installing & then just will not proceed. I keep clicking on the "next" button, & nothing happens. Maybe the virus corrupted some Win 98 files (I'm able to load other programs though). Anyway, I downloaded a free anti virus program from http://www.grisoft.com/html/us_index...4d7423f8be86a, and it's working fine so far.
Thanks again chaps.
