Scanning to pdf
I'm running a Dell PC with Windows 8. I use an Epson printer/scanner SX235W that is a wireless connection.
Out of the blue, I am unable to get it to scan whether I click on the icon on the desktop or push the buttons on the printer/scanner.
The print function is still fine.
Using the troubleshooting prog I get a message 'incompatible program'.
Any ideas please? I am not computer-minded so I'd appreciate laymans' language!

It seems from the limited info available that you have set the scanner to create pdf files as the default option. Either go to the control panel, find your scanner and adjust the settings from there to set the output file option to say .jpeg, or download adobe pdf reader.

Given my recent battle with Epson over a similar issue, there probably are not any new drivers. In my case, they were availalbe for the US version of the product (NX115) but not the EU (SX115). I could do a basic print with the Windows drivers, but not adjust quality, change cartridges etc. I eventually got the drivers installed by running the set-up and installation disk in compatibility mode (it ran as Vista SP2, strangely!) and got the ink install utility, ability to print to pdf etc back.
Given their "customer service" while trying to sort this out, I will NEVER buy ANY Epson product again.
If you are realy desperate, look at Vuescan (www.hamrick.com). I run my old, but reliable Perfection 2480 with that, and it is actually better than the Epson product. No links, just a satisfied customer.

Thank you...
....Midland Deltic. Having been told that Epson have not updated drivers for Windows 8.1, I installed Vuescan and got a result. The only difference is that I now burn to a disc instead of creating pdf on the PC. Not a problem and I am grateful.

I found out the hard way that Epson is one of those companies that have achieved the double of having products that are not fit for purpose as well as treating their customers with contempt when the said products fail, as they always will.
Epson makes even HP look good; it's not easy to be as bad as that, but they have done it.

Years ago, I concluded that "all-in-one" means "something breaks and you have to replace the whole lot". I have a little Canon scanner that works, and a decent laser printer that works.
My last Epson printer ate ink cartridges at a scary rate (not using up the ink, just blocking its nozzles). The laser sits there and "just works".
