Not connected but online?
Hi,
The problem is that when i go into the "view all available wireless networks" it says that i am not connected to the network but only gives me the option of disconnecting. The computer sign in the right hand bottom corner of the screen has a red X across it. As it says that i am not connected i can still surf the net and progammes can still access the internet too.
Is this a problem?
How do i fix it?
Computer run down:
Thanks!
We have another computer on the network, works fine.
It was working well until recently but all that we changed was the security from WPA2 to WEP so that the other computer could connect.
Looking through the Device Manage profile, i have a 1394 Net Adapter connected but i have previously tried disabling it and have still had no success. Unfortunately the wireless is the only way i have of connecting to the internet.
Thanks for all of the replies so far.

Most odd!
Do you have a wired connection? Or is the wireless the only one you have?
I don't know the computer, but do you have two wireless devices - maybe one internal, and one external?
What do you see if you open a CMD window and type ipconfig /all ?

Are you the only machine on the network?
Could it be that your router connects you to the Internet etc, but not to the LAN? In that case it's a question of either / and
a) setting up a network in Windows to see the other machines
b) looking at the router (192.168.2.1) LAN setup page to make sure that the thing is set up as a DHCP server and covers a reasonable range of addresses so that it sees everyone & gives them an address.
OTOH, if you are the only one, you don't need to connect to the network, do you? Only to the wide world - and you seem to be doing that, yes?

It might be you have more than one driver installed for the one network card, or indeed, have more than one network card (more likely on a laptop)
Might be worth un-installing the drivers and then re-installing if you have the drivers, if you don't have them and its connecting might just be worth leaving it!

Although not the same problem, I had a similar sounding problem with Vista on a wired network.
If you do ipconfig and it shows something like
192.186.2.1
0.0.0.0.
or similar then I found that remnents of Symantec were interfering with the new Zonealarm firewall and causing al sorts of Sh!t.
Make sure you only have 1 firewall type app running at once.
