Chrome's OK and opens like lightening, but I've also started using Opera Opera browser | Faster & safer internet | Free download I've done a very crude test and found that Opera seems to load pages slightly faster than other browsers ie PPRUNE loads in 2 seconds on Opera; 2.5 to 3 seconds in Chrome, and 4 seconds in IE. It may also depend on broadband speeds, computer set-up, advertising, etc. Unfortunately Opera takes longer to open than Chrome - you just can't win! Also try Firefox! It would be a good exercise if PPruners reported page loading speeds to get a good sample/consensus of the fastest browser.

There have been a few threads here on the Chrome browser - try the Search facility on this forum with keyword Chrome.
Nice idea, but way too many variables to be at all meaningful.
Base OS, PC spec., other apps open, browser plug-ins installed, internet connection type and speed, location (relative to site being opened), etc. etc.
The fastest browser in the world is going to struggle to open any page over a dial-up connection.
An old PC running a PII at 233MHz and 256MB RAM is going to struggle beside a quad-core Athlon at 3.2GHz and 4GB RAM - even with the same browser!!

I tried Chrome the other day - for about 5 minutes - find it amazing that you can't use Google Toolbar with it - or at least that is what it said when I tried to install it. Xmarks is not also not (yet) compatible with it (unless you install some beta something or another).
It's improved since I first tried it when the first beta came out - it is fast but it look bland to me. Back to FF for me...

seriously though, I find that we have got google chrome on 2 of our machines, we did not knowingly download it. How did it get there, pinching precious resources etc?

Personally I still think there are privacy issues around Chrome that should be taken seriously.
However, for those that love it....Try this.

Chrome Browser.... resolving host
I have been running Chrome as my primary browser for a couple of months now and have started to get an error message so often that I am considering deep sixing it and going back to Firefox.
In the info bar I get.... resolving host....and after about 2 minutes it comes up with a page saying this page does not exist and offering me the chance to view a cached copy of the site.
If I then go up to the address bar, remove the additional url text as far as the actual address required it will then display the required page.
Any ideas as to how to fix this? or is it better to change browser? Running Vista Home Premium on a Packard Bell laptop with a T1600 16ghz Intel processor with 2 Gig of memory with 60% free.

Glad to hear that I am not the only one!
Have been using Chrome for six months or so and very pleased with it...until now.
Have been getting the same messages as you and just thought that my PC (running Win7) was getting clogged up. Did all the usual stuff but problem still remains. Even tried using Safari - but still getting used to the learning curve!
Will watch this space for a solution as the interweb (Google) seems to offer nothing...yet!

Anybody else have any experience of using OpenDNS?
Actually I should use it more and encourage others to do so, as I would hate to see google dominate yet another (critical) internet component.

I would personally change browser. I've dabbled with Chrome for a few months now, but always revert to Firefox because it's more dependable. Trying Safari is unlikely to help, because both Chrome and Safari are based on the open source WebKit project.
