Transferring "whatever it's called".
As you (may) know, "Deepthought" is alive and well, running Vista Ultimate with 8Gb RAM but only one of its eyes open (one video card, not two (in SLi)). It can't see in stereo yet.
What I'm currently engaged in is transferring all my data files from the old XPpro "office" machine to the new Vista Ultimate "Deepthought" machine.
I've successfully transferred a .pst file of all the e-mails from "inbox" in Office 2007. I've somehow transferred a .pst file of "archived" mails (that *used* to be listed as a tree of "personal folders" - just underneath the "Search Folders", but will no longer show themselves).
I've transferred "Contacts" nicely.
There was, however, a healthy "auto complete list of names" in Outlook that would often finish entering the "To" field when generating a new e-mail. Gawd knows where that is, or if it will be persuaded to wander down the Cat5 network cable and reside in the new machine.
Any thoughts on transferring the file that auto completes the e-mail addresses - or how to get the "personal folders" to show in the left pane of Outlook 2007 Ultimate? Pretty please.

Keygrip,
This is something that just happens when transferring to a new OS. In Outlook 2003 the problem is caused by the default address book, you need to go into your "accounts" options and set default address book to "contacts" there will be 2 listed and you just need to toggle between them to see which is the correct one you need, problem should be fixed.
Hope it helps!

You want to copy the (I reverted my laptop to XP, so this is the XP path)
C:\Documents and Settings\<Your Profile>\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\Outlook.nk2
You obv. want to change this to your Vista profile path
Cheers,
Steve.

how to get the "personal folders" to show in the left pane of Outlook 2007 Ultimate?
File
Open
Outlook Data File
Locate the archive file (*.pst) that you moved across and select OK
That should do what you want.

Thankyou to the three of you for trying!
I gave them all a go - didn't get anywhere. The "personal folders" attempt (APPOEU) did generate a list called "personal folders" but it was an out of date copy of the original "personal folders" from the top of the column on the left..
The ones I'm trying to get across are labelled "Archive by topic".
The <Application Data> folder mentioned by NTOG is in my computer somewhere, I know - I've seen it. Buggered if I can find my way to it though. Don't even know which computer it's in, but still looking.

I think it will be one of the following (assuming it is a standard install).
C:\users\<Profile Name>\appdata\roaming\
C:\users\<Profile Name>\appdata\Local\
C:\users\<Profile Name>\appdata\LocalLow\
Cheers.

On the original computer, right click on the folder you want (ensure you select the very top level of that folder - 'Archive...' ) and select properties, then click on the 'Advanced' button, the 'General' tab should display the 'File Name', make a note of this as this is the file that needs to be copied over and opened on the new machine.
