MP3 Player not recognised by PC

Hi All,

I have recently bought an MP3 player but when I plug it into the USB port it isn't recognised by the PC. I have a disc which I assume has the drivers on it but as the PC wont recognise the device I have no idea how to get the drivers into the player so as I cant get the player to boot up. The player runs on USB2 which I have on my PC. The PC is running Windows XP Home SP2 so it should see the player as an external device. Any suggestions as to how I can get the software into it, get it to boot up and operate as it should ?

Thanks in advance

I'm not sure you need any software getting into the player - assuming its working on its own?

The CD will be drivers for the PC rather than for the player. Install the drivers to the PC and then try plugging the player in again and see if it connects.

Connecting MP3 players and PDAs can be a bit frought at first. One old Chestnut which has been discussed here in many threads, is USB itself. If, after (Go on - be a Chicken) following the instructions it can't be seen and you are connecting via a USB hub, then step one, is to plug directly into the USB port of the PC and see if that helps. Often, it does.

Just think, you probably have the delights of Windows Media Player and its insistence on meaningless and iirrelevant playlists to fathom out.

Oh - if the driver software doesn't prompt you, it is a good idea to reboot after installation so that Windows can configure itself before marshalling its resources in tackling synchronisation.

Good luck!

If the player isn't powered up either a) prior to connecting to the PC, or, b) by the actual act of plugging it into the USB port, try switching it on manually after plugging it in. It's worked for me before.

BTW - you will not need the drivers on the disc under your operating system (XP SP2).

Thanks for the replies so far guys.... here's what's happening now :

When I connect the player to the PC I get the normal noise that windows has detected something being plugged in but it doesn't show as an external drive and I cant tell if it's showing as anything at all ! The player itself is now sitting in what I think is a permanent state of booting up. The display shows the word '' starting... '' and that's all. I cant turn it off and when I remove the battery and re-insert it all I get is the same display. Do you think it needs formatting ?
I bought the thing from eBay and it was a cheapy at £30 for a 512MB player. It came from Hong Kong so not much chance of anything in the way of customer service. If it's knackered then it's no big deal but I'd like to get it going if possible

Oh the woes of the MP3 player......

I am aware that some players don't like it if you have plugged them into your PC prior to loading up the software provided with them & will subsequently not work even with it loaded up.

There may be a way of resetting your player by either a combination of button presses or using a dedicated reset button. But I'm sure this would be printed in the user manual.

Best of luck, you'll need it.

Oh I forgot to mention the manual. Below is a direct quote from the ' Locating the Controls' page

Below the function elucidation divides the type A is two kinds of with the type of B. If inconvenient understand please.

As you can see the manual is a treasure in itself

I had hoped that copious amounts of alcohol may have helped me to understand it, but to no avail

You are not alone

My Honk Kong MP3 player (EBAY said located in UK ???!!!) packed in on the first switch on. I have tried everything. I found this site useful.

http://www.s1mp3.org/en/docs_deadrec.php#top

Please let me know if any of the firmware flashes work (step 6) - I am working through them slowly.

Re: MP3 Player not recognised by PC

Anita,
Sounds like we bought from the same source mine said UK seller but shipped from Honkers
I contacted the seller who sent me a link to their website and some software. Below is a copy and paste of his email, I hope it's of some use

Hi,

Many thanks for your email and you probably deleted the initial or installation file

My suggestion to deal with the problem are as follows:

http://www.langji-tech.com/member/22...20of%20mp3.exe

Please download file first.

At the first place, you should install the CD which we have sent you with the

player into the CD-ROM.

Secondly, drag the attachment provided by us into the desktop.

Thirdly, plug the mp3 into the USB.

Furthermore, you'll see an icon like airplane ,then click it.

At last, follow the steps in the screen, put download file on the box in the screen.

Everything is ready now.Just enjoy your music.

Pls feel free to contact us if you have any question.

As you can see the English is poor but you can get the drift.

Good Luck .... Oh, I couldnt get your link to work
