Ok, so Iīm assuming -because thatīs all I can get from your short post- that it is not the best place to work at and that it has been discussed on a previous thread.

Did I get that right?

Thank you for your "help"

Well, I got a PM saying that people run away from this place.

A friend told me that 208 pilotos make US$5000/month with ASL.

Anybody else?

There is a reason for the salary to be high, I fly in the region (Suriname) and honestly I wouldn`t want to live in Guyana for any money, have many friends from there and they are awesome people but the place is not yet livable.

Yup, I got the same type of comments from canadian pilotos who have worked in Guyana before. It seems like a no go decision to me. Gosh!, I was looking forward to the warm weather and the World Cup next year.... Anyways, thanks mate for your info.

Fly safe!

I know a couple of the mechanics working down there and I know for a fact that they are good - Trained at Pratt & Whitney Montreal - NOW, managment has the final word on what gets fixed and what does not. That should be our main concern. I'll e-mail my buddies and keep you guys posted.

The World Cup? I think that`s in Brazil, reaching Brazil from Guyana is not easy at all, it is easier to reach from Canada. Yes you can go to Boa Vista from G town, but not sure you wanna do that crazy and dangerous ride with overworked miners and prostitutes, that to get to Boa Vista!!..which I`m not even gonna comment on. You can fly to Suriname then down to Brazil, but it costs a fortune..

The Warm Weather? You mean crazy hot an humid, no AC, there are also no beaches in Guyana and the rivers are not the best to refresh yourself.

You should try Suriname, quality of life is great, better then any place I have lived in Brazil, it`s a true gem, but they do have the same bad weather of Guyana. There are also a lot of Canadians in Suriname, mostly from the French side. The jungle side is still very pristine and hasn`t gone out of hand yet..it`s also a very safe country.

I flew in Guyana back in 2005 and had a blast but the above posts are right. The country is very poor and it doesn't provide good living. I don't think it has changed much since 05 but maintenance was never an issue and management was not bad either. It was just the living conditions that got to me after a year. Still have many good friends there and I do agree with flyingswiss, Suriname is nice and enjoyable with great quality of life.
