Av Canada - The Colonel

Normally, I check the AvCAnada forum with my morning coffee and look forward to reading
the last comments of "The Colonel".

I'm posting this post as a backup to one I just placed on AvCanada as most probably it won't last long there and that ID will also become banned as does almost anyone who regularly posts informative posts on that forum..

AvCanada unfortunately, has moderators who tend to ban, members for no real reason, and the same moderators if you check, contribute next to nothing or at best very little.

Good posts take time and effort. They should be respected even by those who lack the ability to
write similar educational and informative posts.

Joe, some of your moderators are out of control and have been for a number of years.

It's time there was a change in attitude at AvCanada and for many of these "permanent bans" be removed and, in particular the most recent banning of "The Colonel" who has more real experience
and knowledge than perhaps any and all of all those who have somehow got to become "moderators"
with the power, to effectively defame, insult , abuse, harass anyone they don't like
without any accountability whatsoever.

Thanks to Pprune for their forum..

I think the Colonel was banned because he flipped out and went berserck just before he got banned. It might have been partly due to me bringing up his tribunal. Anyway, I agree that he does post some useful stuff, and I even asked the admins not to ban him (even though he told me to " off and die" for no apparently reason). Nice person, eh? I think he might have some emotional issues...

Also, even though he had a lot of experience, he did post quite a few pieces of incorrect information, and if you tried to point out any of his errors he just either completely ignored you or else he posted a bunch of his airshow pictures. Did I mention emotional issues?

It's kind of ironic that a low-timer like me should be pointing out the mistakes of a sky-god.

Are you a friend of his?

Perhaps the knowledge and experience that is considered appropriate to be and act as a moderator, is only partly aviation based, and also socially based.

Like it or not, PPRuNe, and AvCanada are someone's "private" entities, and we are all self invited guests. Thus, we mere posters, HAVE AGREED TO, and are bound by the rules of conduct of the website.

Knowledge and experience are super, and very appreciated, but if their delivery is demeaning and painful for no good reason, the benefits can be quite compromised. Why would aspiring aviators, and one day skygods themselves, want to spend their time participating in a forum where they are frequently being put down? Yes, I have replied with little empathy too a few times, but cutting someone down to nothing is un-necessary, and if needed, is the mod's job, not that of another poster.

The moderators maintain the tone to which all members agreed when they signed up. I have been "moderated" in the past, and did not like it, as have many, but ultimately, the moderators do the best that they can, and without their volunteer efforts, these forums would not be a nice place to spent time....

I like what he posted. He had a lot to offer and more importantly, the time to share his experiences where lots of others simply don't. I sent him a few PMs of appreciation. There is still lots of good info to be gleaned from Pitts Specials.

What I didn't like was the petty bickering and the calling out of other posters by parties on both sides of the fence.

I think one of the reasons why I've lasted so long on that site is because once things get 'emotional' (feelings), I just bug out for a few days. Lots of the crap on there is simple misunderstanding... ...or about things that make no difference in the real world... ... or just trolls being trolls, you can't avoid those.

My credibility isn't tied to an online forum... sticks and stones.... those who know me in real life (like Cat Driver) know what I'm like. Cat Driver vouches for the Colonel/Hedley/Gene in the same way... so he's AOK in my books.

Thanks for the kind words, RJ555 and IFP.

Perhaps some day, I will have the aviation
knowledge and skill of the anonymous internet
"hot sticks"!

Perhaps someday you'll have the ability to post without gumming it up with more of your adolescent selfies, but I doubt it.

Aviation knowledge and skill encompasses much more than flying upside down and posting self-aggrandizing photos to prove some irrelevant point known only to you Canuck

You have a long way to go....

Why do you crave validation so much and go completely unglued when you don't get it anyway? So people don't think you're the sky god you think of yourself as, so what? There are worse things in life.

Yeah I'm done with Avcanada. Each Mod has their own personal agenda. Col....you're well respected in my books. Although I sometimes didn't agree with what you were posting I enjoyed reading your posts.

I too quit Av Canada when a mod in Toronto, who prefers an "alternate life style" ripped into me over my view of the Olympics , figure skating in particular, he recently claimed he could obtain a document which a friend in aircraft sales needed for a client, turns out he is an utter bullslinger and has no way of fulfilling his promise, an utter faker! Now, I have flown with the with the Col of chicken fame, in fact I recentley entrusted him with our corporate aircraft, along with its pasengers, reading the drivel on Av Canada I doubt rhere are many posters I would allow to do this, in fact our insurance company woudnt cover most Im sure. The Mods on Av Canada remind me of a certain TC inspector who belives evrything he sees on "Ice Pilots" not understanding that show buisiness and what really goes on are two very diffent things, thus the Cols posts do not reflect the serious and safe pilot I know, the mods need to stop being so bloody serious and get a life and try to understand when your chain is being yanked!

Was my "chain being yanked" when he told me to " off and die" and that I was "full of " and that I was "spreading lies" about him (for simply posting a link to his tribunal)?

No, it's not about 'yanking chains'. The Colonel simply needs to grow up and learn how to behave like an adult. He was bitchslapped by the avcanada mods for being an . It would be great if he could interact like a human being, but he doesn't seem capable of it.

For sure Clunkdriver, the Colonel is one of the best most knowledgeable pilots in the industry and like you I would let him fly anything of mine.

I don't blame the Colonel for getting riled about his problems with T.C. both of us have been denied the right to work in our own country by that gang.

Quite simply Capn Crunch, I think a fair number of ex Av Canada posters, along with a few still posting, share his view of you,as for me, I dont think I cant remember a single post from you worth reading or getting worked up about, however if you think TC have any decency, ethics or standards of behavior expected of Public Servants then I can well see how you would not be viewed favorably by many in this industry. Personly I think its a real shame that the only aviation web site suposedly Canadian is in fact US based, a situation that a few of us might change fairly soon.

When I don't agree with anyone or someone, I still look to see what it is that we have in common, and, to be mindful of our own self centered ideas that come from a lack of effective learning from others.

That means, we all have an obligation, to bear in mind our own bias and to refer to the subject or the content of the post and not the person.
When readers start attacking the person, the character and reputation, to me, its ample evidence that the post has crossed the line as in this case, the subject is the abuse of power in banning "The Colonel" for his opinions.

I trust that every pilot sits on his butt when flying or otherwise engaged, possesses a rectum which, like opinions, is something we are all entitled to no matter how much others may not wish to look at.

Ah, you're a classy dude, Clunkdriver. I can see why you left avcanada. I'm pretty sure your sentiments aren't shared by a 'fair number' of avcanada posters, but feel free to prove me wrong. I have never said anything about TC having decency or standards. Have you even read any of my posts? I simply posted a link to the Colonel's tribunal. Are you saying they made up the whole thing about him flying VFR in IMC?

Anyway, I don't know about you, but I sure as hell wouldn't want anyone who deliberately flew VFR in IMC to be anywhere near any of my planes.

Yeah, the Mods at Avcanada have gone a bit off the deep end. Yes, it's a private site and they can do what they want, however at some point all the interesting people leave.

I miss reading clunks stuff there. I also miss the old fog ducker.

Here's a question: Did Sky's the Limit get banned? He had a bit of a melt down and then nothing.

Av Canada. The colonel

When I read the now locked AvCanada thread, the post that struck me as the most insightful was posted by Niss.

You can be the absolute best pilot in the world, but that does not give you the right to PM people and tell them off in the foulest language possible, or threaten them.

You can be the best stick and rudder pikot around, but posting selfies on every thread regardless of the topic, gets a bit tiring for most.

And you can be a super specialist in one section of the aviation workd, but that does not give you the right to be condescending to the other sectors.

Being a certifable whack a doodle, even if it does not reflect your personality in real life, offends enough people that maybe the number who would leave because of his being banned was far less than the number who would leave if he stayed.
Personally, I waded through what I felt were his immature comments to mine the gems of his knowledge, but I have to admit, sometimes it was a challange.

In any event, the AvCanada folks did not want him on their site, and that is the end of it. I am sure that after the colonel has given it some deep thought that we will enjoy what he has to offer here.

As far as TC goes, I think a few years ago their enforcement division got out of hand, and it became a case of them vs us, and they had unlimited resources and a big gang to target individuals. Fear , not respect, was the order of the day.
And many good people got clobbered by their abuse, and I suspect much of it may still be lingering as some of those involved actually got promoted
Perhaps, I am just out of the scene, but the sense I get, is that for the most part, the complaints about TC are diminishing. Though in sny large organization a few circle.dot types are going tobget hired...such is the way of the world.
I do hope the col.does a bit of soul searching and we can all benefit from his knowledge and experience

As far as I can see, he didn't actually dispute that he had done aerobatics in clouds - he said that they had charged him under the wrong CAR (which the tribunal disagreed with).

Also it wasn't TC inspectors who nabbed him, it was his fellow airshow pilots (and they had great reluctance to report a fellow pilot).

Just because you had a bad experience with TC doesn't mean that all of TC is corrupt.

I find it pretty dickish (and bullying) to threaten and harass me for posting a factual link. If it's wrong, you should point out the facts rather than yell at me.

The only reason I posted the link in the first place was because the Colonel was bullying someone else on avcanada. He said that Schteevie was a dangerous pilot, which I disagreed with.

I don't really give a crap about someone bullying me - after I graduated from the schoolyard I learned how to deal with bullies. But if you do bully me (or anyone else), I'll stand up to you.

If the Colonel apologies to me, I promise I'll be his bumchum again.

No it would be wrong to say that " All " of T.C. is corrupt.

However I have three and a half years worth of documentation that proves beyond a doubt a lot of their top management are corrupt.

Including in the region you are in CpnCrunch.

My documentation is in the form of papers in a legal action I took against T.C.C.A.....and won.

It's truly remarkable how Hedley continues to get threads locked and he isn't even there anymore.

Av canada. The colonel

But you seem to feel I need your advice...right?

And its OK for you to state your thoughts about AvCanada, but not me?

We all have our own perspectives. Why do you not want to allow me mine?

Or for that matter...pretty much anyone else who disagrees with you.

Life is to short to engage in this type of pettiness....
