I must say that was one heck of a genius marketing coup!

Well done!

You just gotta love Christmas,it brings out the best in all of us, greed, conspicuos consumption, over eating and drinking, over spending , in other words all the things which make us what we are! All this pushed by marketing departments, aimed mostley at children , Oh, and as an afterthought, peace on earth, goodwill to all.

Great video....and commercialism or not....still a nice touch.
I have to smile though as I'll bet the Westjet pilots don't feel so festive as I slam dunk them in on the 06s with a screaming tailwind as they struggle to stabilize, and then overshoot.

Call it what you want to....assign any motive to it you wish....but I am glad to see Christmas is still celebrated up north.

Well Done Folks....Two Thumbs UP!

They would have struggled to give me what I want for Christmas......to see all our Lads and Lasses Home...Safe...from Afghanistan.

Married a Canuck, yes its shewd advertising OK, but I think Transat with their flight this week for terminally sick kids, Air Canada flying kids in the same terrible predicement to Disney World each year {all serviced and flown by staff "Pro Bono" by the way ,fuel at cost, all funds raised by employees} get my vote and buisines, by the way, how come the Air Canadas free Christmas luggage give away doesnt get a mention? After all it just took place at the airport where you are located .Regardless of our individual views, Merry Christmas to all !

True Air Canada does a lot of "charity" work too.

Perhaps the more "under the radar" approach to their "good corporate citizen" attitude should be altered and maybe they should start bragging more and louder about their efforts.

Not everything about Air Canada is negative, there are a lot of positive attributes at Air Canada but people outside this industry don't understand how it works and I'm afraid never will either.

WestJet I'm sure is a good company but they have their problems too (it's not all positive at WestJet, they do have their negative side too).

Clunck

I don't often say this to you but.....I agree with you.....

I would love to see ALL the airlines, charities, Make a wish etc...highlighted at this time of year....shame that it isn't....but sometimes all it takes is that "well placed" ad....or shared facebook page...or casual aside from an employee to the media etc etc.
I saw the Westjet campaign on a friends facebook status which had been shared from elsewhere...so just shows how the story can spread.

We get told in advance in YYZ terminal which aircraft are the special flights (Make a wish, Santa flight etc). It does give a nice feeling helping them on their way.

While we in the Coaster house always think that a little charity goes a long way, we also think that the quiet work done by some airlines is a classy thing. To loudly proclaim "Look at us! We're doing all this wonderful work!" is purely a marketing ploy and seems to cheapen the charity that is so important to those who badly need it at this time of year. By all means give if you can, many depend on a little help, but why crow about it?

Left Coaster, Oh so true, I think the most offensive "Giving" is to be seen in Ottawa when out side drone filled government offices there are often large signs or charts/fifty foot thermometers ect. which proclain how great and generous the civil servants inside the building are, just look at how much they have "donated".{often under pressure Im told} I often fly a fellow in our aircraft who I know puts loads of money into good causes, but never will his name be seen on the donors list or in the media, in fact I think he rather enjoys his reputation as a real "hard arse". Now on a rather funny note, each day I usually get emails from friends around the world who I have met in my travels , two yesterday and today, both comenting on the AIR CANADA Christmas advertising stunt! Too funny!

christmas stunt

Hi Clunck,
I oppenly admit that I am one of the mailers that got it wrong. It was indeed the West Jet stunt I saw here in good old Germany on TV.
By the way, it is amazing what all kind of different people and companies in your country make happen in this time of year. Wished I could report a comparable amount of charity from this side of the pond.
You all have a fine time with the coming holidays
Jo

Anex 14, will get back to you after morning "chores" are done, but you are in good company as one of four who sent similar emails, one is actually a relative, minus sixteen this AM with a fifteen knot wind!
